This record was till now in the name of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) batsman Devdutt Padikkal, who scored 580 runs for Karnataka in the 2019-20 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. But now Vaibhav has overtaken Padikkal at just 15 years of age.

Great season for Vaibhav Suryavanshi

The left-handed opening batsman has performed incredibly throughout the season. Vaibhav has scored 583 runs in only 14 matches this season at an excellent average of 41.64 and an explosive strike rate of 232.27 with the help of one century and three half-centuries.

He has also become the highest run-scorer of Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2026. Meanwhile, the teenager has also destroyed bowlers with towering sixes this season. Vaibhav has already hit 53 sixes in the ongoing IPL 2026, the most by any batsman this season.

RR sensation eyes Chris Gayle’s all-time record

Now, the RR opener is on the verge of achieving another huge record in the world’s biggest T20 league. If Vaibhav hits seven more sixes, he will break the all-time record of most sixes in a single season of IPL. Currently, that record is in the name of legendary West Indies batsman Chris Gayle.

Gayle hit 59 sixes for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) during IPL 2012.

Vaibhav had already created history when he became the first Indian batsman to hit 50 or more sixes in a T20 tournament. He achieved this special feat during the last match of Rajasthan Royals against Lucknow Super Giants.

Trevor Penny was surprised by Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s incredible batting on 15 runs.

Meanwhile, Rajasthan Royals assistant coach Trevor Penny has been impressed by Vaibhav Suryavanshi, but he also feels that the youngster’s rise should be handled with caution. Penny said he had never seen a 15-year-old player with so much confidence and skill.

Trevor Penny was quoted by Cricbuzz as saying: “I’ve never seen a 15-year-old batsman look like this. Even if he was 25, I think we’d be talking about him. I think age doesn’t come into it. He plays right from the first ball, and he has all the shots. I think this year compared to last year – I watched on TV – he’s probably matured a bit in terms of what shots he can play, Where the bowlers think there is a weakness.

He is adjusting to it and then playing accordingly. He is certainly adapting to how the bowlers think they can bowl to him. Suddenly, once he works on that, they have to come back to their strength, and then he becomes dominant again.
