It is certain that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) wants to provide 15-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi his first cap for the men’s national cricket team. The teenage sensation has proved himself with Rajasthan Royals in the Under-19 India and Indian Premier League (IPL).
It is undeniable that cricket at the senior level is a completely different game. In different countries, many players have performed brilliantly in age group or domestic cricket but could not sustain the tough performances at the top level of the game. In such a situation, the board does not want to take any hasty decision on the career of Vaibhav Suryavanshi.

An acid test for Vaibhav Suryavanshi
Before including Vaibhav Suryavanshi directly in the senior men’s cricket team, BCCI has included the opening batsman in the India A team, which will face Sri Lanka and Afghanistan A teams in June. The triangular 50-over tournament will be held in Sri Lanka from June 9.
This Tri-Nation series is being considered as an acid test for Vaibhav Suryavanshi. If Vaibhav Suryavanshi can showcase his skills in the upcoming series then there will be more chances for him to make his debut for the senior national cricket team. In this series, each team will have to face the other two teams twice before the final. The two teams with the most wins in the preliminary stage will play the final match.
Tri-Nation A Series in Sri Lanka: :

- Tuesday, 09-June-2026 – India A vs Sri Lanka A
- Thursday, 11-June-2026 – India A vs Afghanistan A
- Saturday, 13-June-2026 – Afghanistan A vs Sri Lanka A
- Monday, 15-June-2026 – India A vs Sri Lanka A
- Wednesday, 17-June-2026 – India A vs Afghanistan A
- Friday, 19-June-2026 – Afghanistan A vs Sri Lanka A
- Sunday, 21-June-2026 – Tri-Nation Final
BCCI gave indications of its plan
The players selected by BCCI are quite interesting. The average age limit of the squad has been kept at around 23 years. Arshad Khan, Yudhveer Singh and Yash Thakur are the only three players whose age is above 25 and there is not a single player in this batch who is above 30.
The board’s intention is clear: to develop a pool of young cricketers across all departments who can serve the senior cricket team in the future. Along with the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season, players’ performances in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, a one-day format tournament, are also evaluated before naming players for the tour.
India A team for tri-series: Tilak Verma (captain), Priyansh Arya, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, Riyan Parag (vice-captain), Ayush Badoni, Nishant Sindhu, Harsh Dubey, Suryansh Shedge, Prabhsimran Singh (wicketkeeper), Kumar Kushagra (wicketkeeper), Vipraj Nigam, Yash Thakur, Yudhveer Singh, Anshul Kamboj, Arshad Khan.
A multi-day ‘Test’ will also be played in Sri Lanka
Following the limited-overs tri-series, India A will also play two multi-day matches against Sri Lanka A, with the squads for the red-ball fixtures to be announced later.
The white-ball series will be played in Dambulla, while the multi-day matches will be held in Galle, the BCCI said in an official press release on May 14.
