Former India batsmen Sanjay Bangar and Ambati Rayudu have praised Shubman Gill’s leadership for Gujarat Titans in IPL 2026. Under Gill’s leadership, GT currently tops the points table with 8 wins from 12 matches.
They already have one foot in the playoffs, and if that ever happens, the second-best net run rate in the league. GT has reached the top of the table on the basis of five consecutive wins in the league. In fact, the five teams that GT defeated in this race are currently ranked second to sixth in the points table.

GT beat SRH by 82 runs
Gujarat Titans took full advantage of the conditions created to favor fast bowling in Ahmedabad on Tuesday. Gujarat batted first and SRH bowlers welcomed everyone. Pat Cummins, Prafulla Hinge and Saqib Hussain made it difficult for the GT batsmen to stop the ball, but Sai Sudarshan held the fort.
Despite getting out early, Sudarshan scored 61 runs and got some important partnerships with Nishant Sindhu and Washington Sundar. Sundar started slowly but completed his half-century in the last over. The GT got 168, but that was enough.
Mohammed Siraj dismissed Travis Head for a duck in the first over. Kagiso Rabada received the Player of the Match award for taking three wickets in the power play. By the end of the power play, SRH had too many runs and not enough wickets to chase the target.

Jason Holder equaled Rabada’s tally of three wickets, and Prasidh Krishna also joined in with two wickets. Rashid Khan completed the formalities of dismissing SRH for 86 runs and giving GT a win by 82 runs.
He is becoming an efficient leader – Rayudu on Shubman Gill
Speaking to ESPN Cricinfo after the game, Ambati Rayudu and Sanjay Bangar said that Shubman Gill was progressing slowly and steadily as a captain and looked more systematic with his thought processes.
“He looks very composed and composed as a captain, [compared] From what we’ve seen in the first season, he’s leading [2024]. Therefore, he is now becoming an efficient leader. Slowly, but steadily, he is getting there,” Rayudu said.
I think he is doing a good job – Sanjay Bangar on Shubman Gill
Sanjay Bangar also expressed his views on the captaincy of Shubman Gill. He praised Gill for trusting his fast bowlers on a helpful surface and using only five balls of spin after the match was over.
“Parameter [for judging] This is generally how a captain handles spin. And this is something that was a topic of discussion when he also captained India in a few Test matches in England. There have been occasions when he has shown more confidence in fast bowlers than spinners.”
“And once you have the caliber of Rashid Khan, sometimes he gets underbowled, but there is a lineup of five fast bowlers, and if they are doing well and if they are successful, why do we want to disturb the pattern of play unnecessarily? So, I think he is doing a very good job. Sometimes, not using a spinner can also be a good strategy,” Bangar concluded.
