BCCI has strict protocols against use of mobile phones in specific areas of the stadium in IPL 2026
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has introduced minimum standards for the areas of players and match officials in IPL matches. All members of the participating teams are obliged to receive the guidelines during the IPL 2026 match. Under these rules, certain specific parts of stadiums are treated as specially protected areas, where the use of communication devices, including mobile phones, is not allowed during matches.
Dressing rooms, players’ external match viewing areas, TV or third umpire area, match referee’s room, players’ and match officials’ dining areas, dugouts and any other areas identified by the BCCI Anti-Corruption and Security Manager are considered as Players and Match Officials’ Area (“PMOA”), where phones, smart watches or any other communication devices are not allowed.
Phones and other electronic communication devices are not allowed to be used in the PMOA, except for a few team members.
- The team manager may use the phone in the dressing room area, but not in the dugout.
- Analysts can use their computers at the analyst table.
- Player and support staff items, i.e. phones, smart watches, or any other communication devices, must be turned off and turned over to the Team SLO for storage upon arrival at the stadium.
- Accredited staff, i.e., dressing room attendants, IPL match managers, catering staff, etc., cannot carry communication devices into the PMOA. Safe boxes will be available at each entrance to safely store equipment.
“Franchise staff (for example, CEOs, sponsorships, operations managers, and owners, etc.) may not communicate with players, player support personnel, or match officials or enter the PMOA (without appropriate clearance by the BCCI Anti-Corruption Managers) after the players arrive at the stadium until the conclusion of the match. This includes between the end of the match and the beginning of the Super Over (should there be one). Similarly, players cannot communicate with franchise staff who are team support staff. This is also mentioned in the PMOA Protocol 2026.
Serious allegations against LSG
As per the allegations and claims, a man was seen with a phone, which is a communication device, in the LSG dug-out during the match with Chennai Super Kings. This may violate the rules.
