Former India women’s cricketer Veda Krishnamurthy has expressed concern over Jasprit Bumrah’s fitness due to his poor form in IPL 2026. He called on the Mumbai Indians think-tank to have a completely honest conversation with Bumrah and assess not just his physical health, but his mental health as well.
Bumrah is going through a phase which can easily be called the worst phase of his career. His struggles have also contributed to MI’s problems this season. For all intents and purposes, Mumbai Indians are out of IPL 2026 despite winning their last match.

Jasprit Bumrah is not his usual self in IPL 2026
Jasprit Bumrah has taken 3 wickets in 10 matches at an average of 109.67, economy of 8.89 runs per over and bowling strike rate of 74. These are terrifying figures for any bowler, leave alone someone of Jasprit Bumrah’s ability.
At first glance, most viewers probably wouldn’t even believe that two-time T20 World Champion Jasprit Bumrah was putting up such numbers in the IPL. In MI’s latest match, Bumrah bowled 4 wicketless overs for 45 runs as MI turned Lucknow Super Giants’ target of 229 runs into a walk in the park.
Mumbai Indians broke the three-match losing streak with the win
For the second time in IPL 2026, Suryakumar Yadav replaced injured Hardik Pandya as captain for MI against Lucknow Super Giants at the Wankhede Stadium.

MI decided to field first, but initially the decision seemed to backfire. Mitchell Marsh got a great start while Nicholas Pooran set the field on fire. Forgetting his poor form, Puran scored 63 runs in just 21 balls.
Mumbai managed to pull things back in the end and restricted LSG to just 228, a score that looked low considering the start Rishabh Pant’s men got off to. Rohit Sharma returned after injury and gave his best performance. He added 143 runs for the first wicket with Ryan Rickelton
Do you want to take a vacation? – Veda Krishnamurthy
Speaking to ESPN Cricinfo, Veda Krishnamurthy said that the responsibility of ensuring Bumrah’s well-being rests on all his friends within the team. He said that senior personalities like Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav need to take this responsibility voluntarily.
“We are at the place where the management, or the coach, or even the captain – Surya is quite close to them, he is the vice-captain of the team – and Rohit is around, they can probably sit down honestly and have a conversation. Ask them: ‘Are you feeling 100% inside?’ ‘Do you want to take a break for a game?’ So that he comes back refreshed. This is something you can probably ask him and expect him to answer you honestly.
Former RCB head coach Sanjay Bangar was also on the same panel and echoed Krishnamurthy’s views. He said that if the MI management feels comfortable accepting their fate and finishing at the bottom of the table, then they should let them decide whether the top pace bowler wants to play the remaining matches or not.
