Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, match number 47, was between two bottom-placed teams, Mumbai Indians (MI) hosted Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), with a must-win match for both the sides. However, Mumbai Indians came hard in this game and chased down 229 runs, outclassing their opponents and winning the game by 6 wickets.
Suryakumar Yadav led the team in the absence of Hardik Pandya, who missed the match due to back spasms. Sky won the toss and decided to bowl first and there were changes in the team, with Rohit Sharma, Raj Bawa, Corbin Bosch and Deepak Chahar coming into the team. While LSG made two changes, Akshat Raghuvanshi and Josh Inglis came into the team.
IPL 2026: MI vs LSG Match Result:
After being invited to bat first, LSG used another new opening combination in the form of Josh Inglis and Mitchell Marsh as they started well and set the tone for the Super Giants, but despite the starts, Inglis went back early with the score on 13 runs, with Allah Ghazanfar providing the breakthrough.
Nicholas Pooran and Marsh then wreaked havoc against the Mumbai bowlers and LSG scored 90/1 in the power play as they scored 60 runs in the last three overs. Puran played a blazing inning of 63 runs in 21 balls and Marsh scored 44 runs in 25 balls. Both made a partnership of 93 runs.
But there was a collapse from 123/1 to 160/5 as the Mumbai Indians bowlers clawed their way back into the game. Subsequently, Aiden Markram and Himmat Singh built a partnership between them as LSG scored 228/5 in their 20 overs. Markram scored 31* runs and Himmat scored 40 runs.* They will feel that they fell 20-25 runs short of the start they got.
Chasing the target, Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton gave a fast start, they scored 71/0 in the power play and gave all their strength. Rohit scored a half-century in 22 balls and after that Rohit made a comeback after four matches and scored a half-century in 27 balls. Both made a partnership of 100 runs in 8.1 overs.
At the halfway stage, Mumbai’s score was 127/0, as Rickelton continued his attack, but was out for 83 off 32 balls, narrowly missing out on another century in the match. Then Rohit took charge and played a brilliant inning of 84 runs in 44 balls and was out on the ball of M Siddharth.
After this, Naman Dheer and Suryakumar Yadav continued the flow of runs and remained unbeaten on the score of 23* runs and Mumbai Indians kept their hopes alive for the playoffs after this win.
