In match number 46 of the Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, Gujarat Titans (GT) hosted Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Shubman Gill’s team performed better over Kings and won the match by 4 wickets in the last over. Jason Holder once again became the player of the match for his excellent performance.

It was an exciting low-scoring encounter on Sunday night as GT took its revenge on the table toppers. On a black soil pitch, GT captain Shubman Gill won the toss and decided to bowl first. With the debut of Nishant Sindhu for Shahrukh Khan, the visitors made two changes with Vishak Vijaykumar and Xavier Bartlett replacing Lockie Ferguson and Harpreet Brar.

Suryansh Shedge and Marcus Stoinis come to PBKS’s rescue

After being invited to bat first, PBKS looked completely clueless as they lost Priyansh Arya and Cooper Connolly on the second and third balls of the first innings, while Mohammed Siraj took two crucial wickets. Kagiso Rabada then continued his purple patch in the IPL, and PBKS were reduced to 47/5 with half the team returning to the pavilion.

Then from here young Suryansh Shedge and experienced Marcus Stoinis made a partnership of 79 runs between them and took over the innings. The former scored 57 off 29 balls, and Stoinis scored 40 off 31 balls, helping the Kings cross the 150-run mark as they finished with a score of 163/9.

Washington Sundar wins it for Titans

During the chase, Gill’s first wicket fell for five runs and Sai Sudarshan and Jos Buttler made a partnership of 53 runs, the latter was not able to convert his start into a big score and returned with 26 runs. Sai scored a brilliant half-century in 37 balls, but could not finish the match and returned after scoring 57 runs.

A flurry of wickets followed, but Washington Sundar held one end and finished the game on the second last ball of the 20th over as GT won against PBKS for the first time at this venue and made it a hat-trick of wins in IPL 2026.

He created the atmosphere for us throughout the season- Jason Holder

Jason Holder was awarded the POTM for his amazing bowling performance of 4/24 from his four overs. This was his second consecutive POTM in the IPL for the Titans, and he has been a valuable addition to the team. Jason Holder was happy after winning the award and he credited the pair of Siraj and Rabada for his excellent start.

Jason Holder said, “They were excellent. They set the tone for us throughout the season. Credit to both Siraj and KG. Their efforts have been excellent. Even though sometimes they go for runs, they come back and take wickets which is important in the powerplay.”

“My job becomes easier in the middle once the tone is set, but I said I still have to come and perform. The main thing is to keep the pressure on… If you are not getting wickets, keep the pressure on and bowl your best balls, stop the flow of runs and make sure you make it difficult for them to score runs.”

Jason Holder concluded, “In the dressing room we’ve talked a lot about what we want to do, how we want to adapt in certain situations and the boys are doing a great job.”
