The debate between Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya and Chennai Super Kings CEO Kasi Viswanathan has taken the internet by storm.
On May 2, MI lost to CSK by 8 wickets at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. This defeat ended MI’s playoff hopes in IPL 2026.
In the viral video, Pandya and Vishwanathan were seen talking to each other after the match.
Mumbai Indians almost out after loss to CSK
Hardik Pandya’s decision to bat first after winning the toss proved costly. Will Jacques was out in the second over, but Ryan Rickelton and Naman Dheer started. Rickelton was unable to convert his start, but Dheer scored a fifty.
Anshul Kamboj, Noor Ahmed and Jamie Overton then put the brakes on MI as their middle order collapsed. Pandya himself did the hard work with 18 runs in 23 balls as Mumbai Indians could only manage 159/7 in their 20 overs.
Half-centuries from Ruturaj Gaikwad and Karthik Sharma gave CSK an easy win. This defeat has almost eliminated Hardik Pandya’s team from the race for the playoffs in this year’s IPL.
Hardik Pandya’s meeting with Vishwanathan has sparked discussion
After the match, Pandya was seen shaking hands and laughing with Vishwanathan near the boundary ropes in a viral video.

The incident has now sent fans into a tizzy, with many wondering if Pandya could leave Mumbai Indians for CSK in IPL 2027.
Netizens have cited past incidents involving Viswanathan and other players as context for this speculation. Last year, Vishwanathan was seen involved in a long conversation with Sanju Samson after a match.
Samson was the captain of Rajasthan Royals at that time, but joined CSK this year in exchange for Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran.

Bad form of Mumbai Indians and Pandya
Mumbai Indians are placed ninth in the IPL 2026 points table with just 2 wins from nine matches. Their current losing streak has extended to three matches, and they have already suffered a four-match losing streak this year.
The poor form of stalwarts like Hardik Pandya, Tilak Verma, Suryakumar Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah has contributed to MI being unable to perform as a unit.
Rohit Sharma’s current injury has increased MI’s problems. All this has put a huge strain on the Mi setup.
Captain Pandya has had to bear the brunt of most of the poor performance of Mumbai Indians and his captaincy is under question. Pandya left Gujarat Titans and joined Mumbai Indians to take over the captaincy from Rohit Sharma.
MI’s next match
Ninth-placed Mumbai Indians will face 10th-placed Lucknow Supergiants in their next match. On May 4, both the teams will play at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
LSG is currently on a five-match losing streak and both teams have nothing to lose in this tournament. Another defeat will definitely take both the teams out of the playoff race this year.
