Did Brett Lee hint about his future plans with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)? Fans are surprised as one of the best fast bowlers of all time has made a shocking comment, which could be a sign.

This comment of Lee has come amid the poor performance of Brett Lee’s former team Kolkata Knight Riders. Lee played for the Kolkata-based team for three consecutive seasons from 2011 to 2013 Indian Premier League season. In an Instagram post of the former cricketer, a cricket fan, in a comment, has expressed his desire to see the legend as the bowling coach of KKR. Lee replied.

After a stint with Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings), Brett Lee joined KKR ahead of the 2011 season. He played for the team until the 2013 season. During this period, he played 25 matches for Kolkata and took 16 wickets with an economy rate of over seven.

After Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK), KKR is one of the most successful teams in IPL history with three titles. The third was claimed for 2024. In 2025, they also failed to qualify for the playoffs, and in the current season, another report card with poor grades is expected.

Lee encouraged Kolkata Knight Riders

Brett Lee, who last played for the Knight Riders in 2013, has sentiments for his former franchise. He believes that the team can bring about massive change in the slum. Lee further explained that he spent some of his best years with the Purple Brigade.

“One year ago today – KKR vs Punjab Kings at Eden Gardens. There is no atmosphere like it in world cricket. Loyal knights are something else. And what a Super Over that was in Lucknow last night! Let’s keep it going, Kolkata Knight Riders. Some of the best years of my career were in this jersey,” said the 49-year-old.

At present, former New Zealand fast bowler Tim Southee is the bowling coach of the team. Like Lee, Southee also served the franchise for three years as a seam bowler. Dwayne Bravo, Andre Russell and Shane Watson are also with the coaching set-up to support head coach Abhishek Nair.

Will Lee become the next bowling coach of KKR?

With a brand new coaching set-up and a group of new players, KKR are struggling to maintain the momentum. After playing 8 matches, they are currently placed 8th in the IPL 2026 points table with only a few wins. One of those two wins came after a super over against Lucknow Super Giants.

“Will see you today as bowling coach for KKR,” commented a cricket fan on the social media platform, referring to Brett Lee. In response, the former cricketer said, “Maybe one day”, which has increased speculation about Lee’s plans around Kolkata Knight Riders.
