After making a great start to the competition, Delhi Capitals are struggling to maintain their good form. The Capitals won two of their three opening matches and started losing after missing out on their third win against Gujarat Titans when Axar Patel’s side lost the game by just one run.
This season has not been very successful for Delhi Capitals, as they have now suffered five defeats after playing a total of 8 matches in this season of the competition. However, another defeat for the Capitals has opened the possibility for Mumbai Indians to move up to seventh position if they manage to win their eighth game of this IPL season.
Delhi Capitals captain Axar Patel looked clueless after his embarrassing batting performance against Royal Challengers Bangalore and gave a blunt verdict during the post-match interview. Axar Patel has been quite unsuccessful as captain, while Hemang Badani has struggled as the coach of the Capitals unit.
Huge collapse for the Capitals as they were bowled out for just 75 runs against RCB
Delhi Capitals have not proven to be a bad batting unit as they have scored many runs whenever they have needed to score. However, this time they repeated a collapse that was similar to the one in the first game of IPL 2026.
KL Rahul and Pathum Nissanka have usually performed well at the top, but DC brought in young 18-year-old Sahil Parekh against an experienced bowling unit and kept senior players like Abhishek Porel, Ashutosh Sharma and Prithvi Shaw in the squad.
They lost six wickets for less than 10 runs and ended the powerplay with only 13 runs on the board, the lowest score in the history of the powerplay. Abhishek Porel performed well and was out after scoring just 75 runs in less than 20 overs of his quota.
Delhi bowlers look weak as RCB achieve second-fastest total in IPL history
Unlike the RCB bowlers, the Delhi Capitals bowlers looked weak against the Royal Challengers batsmen. RCB’s batting unit included Jacob Bethel, who provided the momentum which was carried forward by Devdutt Padikkal after his dismissal.
Devdutt Padikkal cleared the fence with ease as he was batting on a completely different surface. Padikkal scored 34 runs off just 13 balls, striking over 250 in a game where DC batsmen have failed to score even at an economy of 5.
RCB completed the chase in the 7th over of the game, Virat Kohli cleaned up the ball twice in the same over and ended the chase in 6.3 overs. This was the second fastest goal in the history of IPL.
The game is such that there is no place for ifs and buts in it – Akshar Patel
“I don’t even know what happened. That’s why they say you have to be on your toes in cricket. We have to move on from this match,” Axar Patel appeared clueless in his statement in the post-match interview.
“From today’s point of view, you can say it had an impact, but you can look back; if catches had been taken or we had taken a single against GT, the momentum would have been with us. The game is such that there is no room for ifs and buts,” said Axar Patel, who looked not satisfied with his performance.
“You have to be positive; you had a bad day, and have to take positives from the last 5-6 matches. I am not surprised; they are world-class bowlers. They swing on every ground, but if our openers or the top order had played them, the result could have been different,” Axar Patel said.
