Australia cricket team is heading towards a busy schedule. Cricket Australia (CA) is set to arrange a tour and several bilateral series in the upcoming months. Their upcoming fixtures will include several Test series including the Ashes. After the conclusion of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL), the Australian team will prepare itself for those competitions. The schedule will be extended next year to 2027.

Due to the busy schedule, questions are being raised on Pat Cummins’ availability in next year’s IPL. Will he make himself available to play in IPL 2027 with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)? Amidst the IPL 2026 season, former New Zealand cricketer, now cricket expert and commentator, Simon Doull gave a clear verdict.

Will Pat Cummins miss IPL 2027 season?

Pat Cummins has already missed several matches in the current IPL campaign. Cricket Australia ensured the fitness of its key players like Cummins and Josh Hazlewood before allowing them to join their respective IPL teams. Mitchell Starc, another key fast bowler of the Australian cricket team, also did not play in the first few matches.

Australia may have had a better time forgetting the 2026 T20 World Cup, but they are still one of the most dominant forces in Tests. Over the years, the baggy green brigade has preferred to play the longest format of the game with full-strength teams. He is expected to stick to his vision in the coming days.

SRH may have to find a new captain for the next season

In 2027, the Australian team will have to play two consecutive high-calibre Test series, one against arch-rivals England for the Ashes, and the other against India for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Simon Doull predicted that due to back-to-back Tests, Pat Cummins may miss IPL 2027 to keep himself match-ready for the national cricket team. Doull predicted that, in the next edition of the league, Sunrisers Hyderabad will have to appoint someone as their next captain, probably Ishan Kishan, in place of the fast bowler.

“You have about 20 Test matches between August and August this year. Well, he’s not playing the next IPL, so let’s go. I don’t think, I don’t think, I don’t, well, we talked about it the other night, I don’t think any of them are going, especially any of the bowlers coming next year,” the former cricketer said on the Cricbuzz show.

Ishan Kishan likely to lead SRH in 2027

“They play five Tests in India and then five Tests in England straight after the IPL. So I’m not sure how many of them are coming. So I’m with Ishan Kishan, I think he just, just keeps it up because he’s probably got a lot of captaincy for them next year,” he said.

As of now, Ishan Kishan is the favorite to lead the team if Pat Cummins is unable to play for SRH in 2027. In the absence of Pat Cummins, Ishan played as the franchise’s stand-in captain in the early stages of IPL 2026.
