Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have finally got some relief and something to smile about in the ongoing Tata Indian Premier League (Tata IPL 2026). After a disappointing start to the season, CSK are slowly getting back into form, and have now got a fresh boost at exactly the right time.
The five-time IPL champions have won two of their last three matches before facing a big shock in the form of Ayush Mhatre. The young batting sensation has been ruled out of the remainder of the current season due to a hamstring injury sustained while batting against SRH on April 18.
Spencer Johnson is ready to roar for CSK in IPL 2026
However, after this setback, the Chennai Super Kings camp has received a huge boost ahead of their crucial IPL 2026 match against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on April 23.

In a massive boost, Australian fast bowler Spencer Johnson has officially joined the Chennai Super Kings squad. The left-arm fast bowler has come as a replacement for the injured Nathan Ellis and his arrival could change things for CSK in the coming matches.
Johnson missed the team’s first six matches due to a back injury and was working on his fitness in Australia. But now he has reached Chennai and is ready to play. Johnson confirmed his arrival through an Instagram story when he visited 7Padel in Chennai, which is owned by MS Dhoni.

Spencer Johnson arrives, MS Dhoni likely to return against MI amid CSK crisis
The timing of the Australian fast bowler’s arrival is perfect as CSK is already struggling with injuries. Left-arm fast bowler Khaleel Ahmed has been ruled out and young batsman Mhatre has also been sidelined. With so many issues in the team, Johnson’s entry brings some much-needed balance.
His pace, bounce and left-arm angle can be very useful, especially on a pitch like the Wankhede Stadium, where fast bowlers can get help. If Johnson gets a chance and is successful, he can be a big weapon for the franchise in the upcoming crucial match against Mumbai Indians.
In another positive update, MS Dhoni traveled to Mumbai with the Chennai Super Kings team and is highly likely to play his first match of this season on April 23. However, it remains to be seen whether he plays as an impact player.

KL Rahul will break MS Dhoni’s big record!
Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals batsman KL Rahul is all set to break the huge record of Chennai Super Kings icon Dhoni in the IPL on Tuesday, April 21. The right-handed batsman needs only 50 more runs to surpass Dhoni and become the sixth-highest run-scorer in IPL history.
He can achieve this feat during DC’s match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in IPL 2026. Rahul is entering this match after his match-winning innings against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
Rahul has scored 5,390 runs in the IPL so far, while Dhoni has 5,439 runs in the league. RCB icon Virat Kohli still leads the charts with over 8,900 runs. CSK stalwart missed first six games; Otherwise, the margin should be big for Rahul to overtake the former Indian captain.
