Former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batsman Subramaniam Badrinath heavily criticized Shivam Dubey as the team suffered a 10-run defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). While CSK were chasing the target of 195 runs, they were in a good position at the time of the contest.
When they lost their fourth batsman in Sarfaraz Khan, they were at 112 runs inside the 11th over of the second innings. From there, CSK could only score 184 runs in 20 overs in reply to SRH’s 195 runs. Soon after Khan’s departure, Dewald Brevis was out for a duck, and Shivam Dubey scored only 21 runs from 16 balls.
Badrinath refused to call Shivam Dubey a striker
For the defeat, which CSK could have easily won, Subramaniam Badrinath blamed Shivam Dubey, who is known for his hitting skills. In the current Indian Premier League season, Team India’s stars are struggling to perform according to their stature. Badrinath called Dubey nothing but a burden for Chennai Super Kings.

Former batsman told how Shivam Dubey will have to bat
Badrinath said that in modern T20 cricket, batsmen need to hit good balls also. For this, the batsmen will also have to reach other areas of the field using footwork.
He said, “Gone are the times when you used to strike only when a bowler misses. You have to reach other areas of the ground and use your legs to move around the crease. He has none of that, which makes him really easy to bowl to. Throw a yorker or a slow bouncer, and he and the other CSK batsmen are finished there. If you bowl them yorkers, they are finished. Badrinath asked Sanju Samson and Ruturaj Gaikwad to play long innings
After playing 6 matches, CSK is at seventh position in the points list. The former cricketer said that Sanju Samson or captain Ruturaj Gaikwad will have to play long innings to provide stability to the batting order. Meanwhile, Ruturaj Gaikwad’s batting average in IPL 2026 is 13.66 with a strike rate of 112.32 in six matches.
Subramaniam Badrinath said, “Sanju or Ruturaj will have to play deep. There is no other way, no chance, even if they make changes elsewhere. Matthew Short did what he always does, so there is no use blaming him and others.”
