Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain Rajat Patidar took a bold decision by handing the ball to fast bowling all-rounder Romario Shepherd for the final over against Delhi Capitals (DC). This was the Caribbean team’s first over of the match and at that time the well-prepared Tristan Stubbs and David Miller were on deck for DC.
Back-to-back sixes from David Miller followed by a four finally sealed the victory for Delhi Capitals. At the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, DC claimed a 6-wicket win over the defending champions.
Romario Shepherd looked disappointed in the dressing room
Since the winning runs came from Shepherd’s over, naturally, he was disappointed after the match. He looked quite disappointed in the dressing room. To cheer up the entire team and especially Romario Shepherd, RCB head coach Andy Flower firmly said that they are fully behind him.
Batting first, RCB scored 175 runs for 8 wickets. The total was competitive, but slightly lower as they were playing on their home ground. The franchise shared a video on Sunday, which depicts the dressing scenario and thoughts of the coaches after the disappointing result.
Dinesh Karthik praised the bowlers
Team mentor and batting coach Dinesh Karthik said that batting on the pitch was not easy. He appreciated the efforts of the batsmen in their innings. Karthik also believes that he could have performed much better on the surface against the Delhi Capitals bowlers.
Dinesh Karthik said, “It was a difficult pitch to bat on and we played well in about 75% of the innings, but yes in the last 5 overs we probably did not score as many runs as we wanted, but we bowled very well, we fielded for the skin, we tried everything possible, the players showed commitment to the team but in the end they got two great batsmen who came in and completely demolished it and that happens in a T20 game.”
RCB’s mentor and batting coach praised the bowlers, especially Bhuvneshwar Kumar. He also mentioned Rashikh Salaam and Romario Shepherd.
“It was a very good over from Bhuvi (Bhuvneshwar Kumar) and Hoffs and also from Rasik, the 19th over was on point, and obviously we tried to take it as deep as possible, and then Sheppey (Romario Shepherd) bowled some good balls and then David Miller also hit some lovely shots. So overall, happy with the bowling effort, could we have both done a little bit better?” He added.
RCB head coach backs Romario Shepherd
Andy Flower also showed his support for the West Indies all-rounder.
“Sheppey, we are behind you 100%. They are two world-class finishers, and we have to give them credit too,” the head coach said.
Few runs were scored with the bat, but Bhuvi and Co.’s excellent fielding and top class bowling kept us fighting till the end.
