Chinnaswamy Stadium on April 5, the Chennai franchise has formally lodged a complaint with the BCCI, alleging that the stadium DJ has crossed professional boundaries by using music and commentary to mock and “belittle” their players.
CSK files complaint against RCB DJ for controversial song and remarks
The root of the controversy is the playing of musician Gana Appu’s viral track ‘Dosa, Idli, Sambar, Chutney, Chutney’. Although the song is a popular social media meme, it has often been weaponized in online fan wars to further South Indian stereotypes. CSK officials said that playing on the track just before the start of their innings was not in good taste and was a deliberate attempt to ridicule the team.
The complaint extends beyond music. CSK Managing Director Kashi Viswanathan It was confirmed that the franchise had objected to specific comments made by the stadium DJ over the public address system. According to the team management, the DJ allegedly made derogatory remarks after the CSK batsmen were out. CSK argued that the role of the DJ is to excite the home crowd, but it should not include belittling or insulting the opposition.
“DJs are usually around to support the home team. But at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, it was different. Some comments were made against our players. Keeping this in mind, we have written to the BCCI to look into it.” Vishwanathan told The Indian Express.
This is not the first time that friction has arisen on this particular track. Last season, RCB had posted a video of the player Jitesh Sharma He sang the same song, to which CSK fans reacted strongly. In retaliation during a match in Chepauk, the CSK DJ played the song when Jitesh was out. However, Vishwanathan said the CSK management immediately intervened at the time and ordered their DJs to stop to ensure opposition players were not targeted – something he claims RCB failed to maintain in the recent Bengaluru match.
A senior IPL official has confirmed that the BCCI Governing Council has received a formal complaint and the stadium conduct guidelines are currently being reviewed to see if any violations have occurred.
“We have received a complaint from CSK and we are investigating.” The officer said.

A tale of two paths in IPL 2026
In the ongoing IPL 2026 season, RCB have emerged as the powerhouse of the league, maintaining an extraordinary winning streak which included a dominant 43-run win over their southern rivals. Their clinical performances, especially at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, have cemented their position at the top of the table.
In contrast, CSK have struggled to find consistent rhythm; While they remain a major threat with a deep squad, their defeat to RCB highlights the ongoing challenges in their bowling unit during the death overs and a batting lineup that has faltered during high-pressure target chases.
