Pat Cummins has received clearance from Cricket Australia (CA) to join Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). Through an official release on the official website, CA informed about Cummins’ possible debut for SRH this season.

The fast bowler had to miss many important matches due to back problems. As the cricket board looks to protect one of its top talents, the seamer was under a lengthy rehabilitation process. After another scan, the cricket board has assured that Pat Cummins is fit to participate in competitive matches again.

Cricket Australia issues official statement on Pat Cummins

CA informed that with the medical reports and latest scan reports being good, the leading fast bowler is all set to join the IPL franchise on Friday. After returning to the SRH camp, Cummins is expected to take some time off before joining IPL 2026. Sunrisers Hyderabad will face Chennai Super Kings this weekend and Delhi Capitals next Wednesday. Cummins is likely to miss both the matches. He can return by 25th Aprilth Match, when Hyderabad will face Rajasthan Royals. Pat Cummins is expected to play in this match.

Cricket Australia reported, “Pat Cummins has been cleared to resume bowling without restriction following fresh scans of his back in Sydney, clearing the way for his return to the IPL. Cummins’ latest set of scans on Wednesday confirmed the back strain problem that had limited him to one match of professional cricket since last August has now been resolved.”

“The Australian fast bowler will now return to India on Friday to join his Australia teammate Travis Head at the Sunrisers Hyderabad franchise for the remainder of this year’s IPL,” the official statement further read.

Pat Cummins will take over the leadership role

In the absence of Pat Cummins, Ishan Kishan is leading Sunrisers Hyderabad in the current season. Currently, the Hyderabad team is placed fourth in the 10-team points table as they have claimed some wins in 5 matches.

With 4 points and a net rate of +0.576, they are behind Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Punjab Kings (PBKS). When Cummins is ready to join the playing combination, he will be handed the full-time captaincy role as before.

Focus will be only on important series

The 32-year-old fast bowler aspires to play in all three formats for the Australian national cricket team. However, they have to take care of their fitness standards. As Australia heads towards a tough schedule, the fast bowlers will prioritize only the important matches and series.

“Still very keen to play all three formats, and at the moment I think we can make it work. I love Test cricket. Hopefully I’m in that rhythm where I can continue that for three, four, five years and not have to give up Test cricket,” Cummins told the Business of Sport podcast in late March.
