Kolkata Knight Riders fast bowler Kartik Tyagi used his pace to bludgeon Sanju Samson as he breached his defense and uprooted the stumps. This led to the dismissal of the CSK openers, who missed out on a half-century after a century in their previous game.

Chennai Super Kings had bought Sanju Samson with the hope that he would be an alternative wicketkeeper to the team as well as add tremendous strength to their top order. But Samson has become MS Dhoni’s main gloveman in his absence, and is now looking to dominate with the bat.

After playing a very good innings in the last game against Delhi Capitals, Samson was the player of the match with a big unbeaten century which took the team to a huge score and helped CSK get their first point in IPL 2026.

Kartik Tyagi hit Sanju Samson with speed on the ball.

After some early strikes from Ayush Mhatre, Sanju Samson was single-handedly aiming to take the Chennai innings further into the game. However, Dewald Brewis, playing his first match with the bat this season, did not provide good support.

As Samson faced the attack alone, he dismissed Karthik Tyagi after seeing his slower ball outside the off-stump. Samson was trying to do the same on consecutive balls, but this time Tyagi had his best weapon.

The young fast bowler can bowl extremely fast and he bowled the ball at a speed of 148 km/h on the stumps. Samson was stunned by the tremendous pace as Tyagi adopted a “you miss, I hit” policy and uprooted the batsman’s leg stump.

Sanju Samson enters Orange Cap leaderboard

Chennai opener Sanju Samson has gradually built himself up to regain his amazing form from the ICC T20 World Cup last month. Sanju’s century gave him the platform and also the confidence to express his shotplay at the top of the order.

After that mammoth century, Samson composed himself and scored a brilliant 48 runs at the score of 150. Just when he was starting to accelerate the innings, Tyagi gave a big breakthrough to KKR.

However, despite missing out on his three single-digit scores, an unbeaten century and now a half-century, Samson has scored 185 runs in five matches in this season of the IPL. He now replaces RR opener Yashasvi Jaiswal at 5th position on the Orange Cap board.

CSK eyeing a total of 200+ in Chepauk

Chennai Super Kings were once called the invincible team at their home ground MA Chidambaram Stadium. The spin-friendly conditions and the immense enthusiasm of the CSK fans at Chepauk were considered to be the real reasons for their success.

In the two prior matches played at this venue at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai Super Kings scored 200+ runs on both occasions. He also gave away 200+ runs as Punjab Kings chased the double century target against them.

After a great start to the match with a huge powerplay score, CSK batsmen will be aiming to take the score past 200 on this occasion too. KKR has not shown the ability to chase such a big target in this edition of IPL.
