CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad’s poor form continues in this edition of Tata IPL 2026. The CSK captain has been out early once, and that too on his home ground in Chepauk. CSK fans may be disappointed with the captain’s poor form.

Chennai Super Kings finally broke their losing streak after winning their first game in the Tata IPL 2026 against Delhi Capitals in their last game. Opener Sanju Samson scored his fourth century for Super Kings and the first of his IPL career.

However, the biggest concern for the Super Kings is their captain’s lack of form. The Chennai team has batted brilliantly after the first game, but Gaikwad has averaged 14 in his fifth game of the season.

Ruturaj Gaikwad’s poor performance in IPL 2026 continues with another low score in Chepauk

Chennai Super Kings is going through its toughest phase in the IPL. Opening with Sanju Samson, their captain Ruturaj Gaikwad has failed to show promise at the top. He has been extensively criticized for his poor batting form as well as cluelessness in captaincy.

Gaikwad, who scored only 56 runs at an average of 14 and a dreadful score of 102 in the first four matches, was determined to make a comeback, but luck was not on his side. In the second over of the powerplay, after being asked to bat first, Gaikwad looked to sweep Anukul Roy to the deep mid-wicket boundary.

The ball did not reach the desired height and hence did not reach the floor. He was caught by Rovman Powell, one of the safest pairs of KKR XI. Ruturaj Gaikwad was out on the score of 7.

Ayush Mhatre gave a great start to CSK in the powerplay.

After Ruturaj Gaikwad’s dismissal, Chennai remained unbeaten with the arrival of in-form Ayush Mhatre, who gave CSK their best start in those conditions. Chennai got off to a good start with Sanju Samson scoring 15 runs in the first over.

However, their dream of a good opening stand was shattered once again with the dismissal of captain Ruturaj Gaikwad. The 20-year-old youngster, who has been in great form for CSK this season too, did not lag behind the likes of Cameron Green and Vaibhav Arora.

He hit the ball to all parts of the ground, taking 20 runs in the second over of Green’s powerplay. He did not stop here and hit several fours on Vaibhav Arora, taking CSK’s score to a huge score of 72 runs in the powerplay.

Vaibhav Arora had the last laugh against Mhatre’s massacre

After the loss of young Mhatre, who had a great season with Chennai Super Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders’ most successful fast bowler had to react strongly. He once again surprised them by bowling bumper.

His hard work paid off, as Ayush Mhatre played two consecutive dot balls and tried to clear the fence on another occasion on the final ball of the powerplay. However, Vaibhav had set up the CSK batsman as he bowled a bouncer to bring the big leg-side boundary into play. Another safe catch was completed by Ramandeep Singh in the deep, as CSK’s second batsman was also out in the same fashion.
