Chennai Super Kings are in serious trouble, and their campaign could take a positive turn with the return of veteran cricketer, 44-year-old former Indian captain MS Dhoni.
Chennai Super Kings may not have their best player in MS Dhoni; However, he brings immense experience and a lot of confidence to the CSK team. They are eagerly waiting for the star’s return to the competition.
Chennai Super Kings started IPL 2026 with three consecutive defeats. CSK batsmen have performed very well; However, despite having a good group of bowlers, they have not been directed in the best possible manner, with Dhoni missing from behind the stumps.
MS Dhoni’s return date confirmed in IPL 2026
Former Indian captain MS Dhoni has aged over the years; However, this has never diminished his proficiency in the format as it has only added to his experience. In Dhoni’s absence, CSK have felt the void as they have won five titles under his captaincy.
MS Dhoni has been ruled out of the first three matches of the IPL 2026 season for CSK due to injury. Dhoni is working hard to make an early return to the competition as he has been working hard at the nets.
As per Rohit Juglan’s report, the veteran CSK star is likely to make a comeback for Chennai Super Kings in the upcoming match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 18. This will be the sixth game for CSK in this edition of the competition. According to this report, he is likely to be out of the next two matches against DC and KKR.

Will Dewald Brevis return for CSK vs DC match?
CSK is also missing another star cricketer in the form of South African superstar Dewald Brevis, the batsman who was in great form in the SA20 and ICC T20 World Cups as well.
Dewald Brevis has been in solid touch and will add tremendous depth and firepower to the middle order. Brewis had announced that he would be returning for CSK on April 11 during CSK’s fourth match of the season against Delhi Capitals.
Only time will tell whether this will be seen in Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium or not. Super Kings may also make some changes to their eleven, with Urvil Patel the most likely replacement for Sanju Samson, who has failed to perform this season.
Will IPL 2026 be MS Dhoni’s last season?
MSD has been a part of the Chennai Super Kings since the inaugural season between 2008 and 2015, before returning to the franchise in 2018. Since then, he has been a part of the franchise and has won three more trophies in 2018, 2021 and 2023.
He played for Rising Pune Supergiants when CSK was banned from the IPL, due to two reasons. Dhoni has also been credited for all CSK’s wins, as Stephen Fleming has been considered useless in MSD’s absence.
However, the veteran continues to age, and along with it, injuries begin to occur; Therefore, he may be forced to retire this time.
