Shrestha, sister of Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer, has been the center of attention on the internet after her controversial video following the rain-washed game between PBKS and KKR. The girl has shared her clarification on social media stating her side.

The IPL has never been far from controversies, but these controversies have increased in recent times due to the increased involvement and interaction of non-playing bodies on social media. However, the pseudo-socials on these platforms are not able to handle any form of humor.

This has often led to controversial issues involving franchise teams, nations, former cricketers and many others. KKR has already been surrounded by controversies and criticism this year due to its poor performance and bold comments from its captain; However, for the first time, he got a chance to turn the tide off the field and he used it to his advantage.

Shreyas Iyer’s sister catches internet’s attention with her controversial post after IPL match

Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer returned to his former franchise at the Eden Gardens for the PBKS vs KKR match in IPL 2026. Kolkata suffered two defeats, while last season’s runners-up Kings started their campaign with two promising wins.

It is believed that Iyer’s family also lived with him, mostly his sister Shrestha Iyer. He was also seen in KKR colors when Iyer captained them in 2024 and won his first IPL title as a captain and a player.

After the game was cancelled, as everyone knows, Shrestha made a controversial post on social media, which was considered a sharp satire by KKR fans. While speaking in Punjabi, he claimed that Punjabis have big hearts, so please accept one thing. This was seen as an attempt to humiliate KKR and make fun of their losing streak.

Following widespread criticism and reaction on social media following the viral clip, with KKR fans claiming it was disrespectful to the franchise that Shreyas Iyer once represented, now the cricketer’s sister has issued a clarification.

He claimed on Tuesday that none of the attacks were personal; This was just her way of expressing herself and celebrating her happiness and she would not shy away from continuing it.

“Guys, I don’t understand why hatred is being spread. It’s just a game. The videos are just for entertainment, and I’m here to support my brother. I will continue to do so. No hate for any team, it’s just a game. Everyone should take it with the game,” Shrestha said in a video shared on Instagram Stories.

She said, “I understand the aggression. I was not trolling anyone. This was my way of celebrating and I will continue to do so. I am just here to say that there is no hatred for anyone. Only love is a game. We all should have fun. The rivalry should be seen, no matter what. There was no personal attack, just stay calm. Keep the peace, guys.”

KKR vs PBKS washout gives Knight Riders their first point

Before storming the Eden Gardens, the Shreyas Iyer-captained side looked to be in complete control after the first few overs bowled in the powerplay. Iyer’s team had dismissed two of KKR’s top-order batsmen, and that too big fish like Cameron Green and Finn Allen.

Expect to see another dip in the Knights’ batting as they prepare for the game. Hence, all the headlines screamed that if the rain gods had not favored the Knight Riders in Kolkata, they would not have got a chance to win that match.

While this is purely speculation as nothing is predictable in a cricket match, KKR had also made subtle changes to their team to take on the Shreyas Iyer-led Red Devils.
