While there have been glimpses of promise through individual performances, the overall balance of the team, particularly in the middle order, has come under scrutiny.
Middle-order struggles highlight KKR’s imbalance in IPL 2026
despite the captain Ajinkya Rahane and young batsman Angkrish Raghuvanshi Despite contributing half-centuries in the opening matches, KKR’s middle order has failed to provide stability. The lack of consistency at this crucial stage has hurt the team’s ability to accelerate or recover from early setbacks.
Much of the focus is on Green, who is one of KKR’s most expensive signings for the season. The Australian all-rounder could score only 24 runs in three innings, below expectations. His promotion to the No. 3 position – a crucial position in T20 cricket – has drawn particular criticism.
Kevin Pietersen raised questions on Cameron Green’s batting numbers
Speaking on JioHotstar, Pietersen did not hold back from assessing Green’s role in the batting order. Although he rejected discussions regarding a player’s value, Pietersen stressed that performance and suitability should drive such decisions.
According to Pietersen, batting at No. 3 in the IPL requires a player with proven consistency and the ability to handle pressure situations – something he believes Green has not yet performed at this level. He pointed out that although Green has shown flashes of talent, including a century in the last IPL season, there is not enough evidence to justify keeping him in such a key role.
“I’m against talking about money because money is something that just happens. These guys don’t make as much money as some of the other players around the world. But obviously, a lot of people like to talk about what I like to talk about, which is cricket ability. And whether or not you’re good enough to be in a position of strength in an IPL team and bat at number three, you have to be good enough to be able to perform at that level.” Peterson said.
Pietersen further argued that Green is more suited to a middle-order role, where he can play with more freedom and contribute as a secondary bowling option. However, with Green not bowling regularly in IPL 2026, his current role in the team looks even more doubtful.
“And I don’t think he is good enough to bat at No. 3. He is not bowling, so you see what he has done. Yes, I have seen him, he scored 100 in Mumbai a few years ago. I have not seen Cam Green enough to need to bat at No. 3 here and take that responsibility. He is a middle-order batsman who bowls a bit and that is what he does.” Pietersen added.
