Indian legends Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have both retired from the shortest format of the game for India; However, it is still interesting to see him make a comeback for his franchise in the IPL.
Indian cricket legends Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have retired from T20Is for the last two years, yet they remain two of the top three highest run-scorers in the history of the format. Both of them were the first batsmen to cross 4000 runs in T20I.
Ever since they retired from T20Is, on many occasions Indian fans have wanted both these great players to come out of international retirement and play for India. However, this time the two former cricketers have chosen one of the two greats to make an international comeback.
Who should take back T20I retirement between Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli?
In the recent rapid-fire round of the Cricbuzz show, former England captain Michael Vaughan and sports commentator Joey Bhattacharya were asked by the show’s host that if they could choose only one among two Indian cricketers, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who would they choose to take back their international retirement.
Joy Bhattacharya was the first to go; He initially laughed and claimed that it was a very difficult choice, especially when both players have worked so hard in recent times. He told how Rohit has lost around 15 kgs, while Kohli has been fantastic.
He then ultimately chose Virat Kohli and claimed that it was a slight advantage for RCB over the MI star even though they are equally stylish cricketers. His words seemed to give Kohli an edge over Rohit by a margin of 51 to 49.
Michael Vaughan chose Rohit Sharma as a better fielder than Kohli.
However, the England captain stood on the contrary and chose the former Indian skipper as his choice over Virat Kohli, especially in T20Is. However, the reason he gave for this choice was not Rohit’s increased explosiveness or fitness.
According to the English great, he chose Rohit as a better fielder who catches the high ball better. “Obviously, Virat is an IPL legend; I think I want Rohit under the high ball,” he claimed.
The host instead claimed that there would surely be a comment somewhere demanding Rohit to withdraw his retirement from T20Is and Virat from Tests.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will return for India on England tour
Rohit Sharma has been doing some good work at the start of the IPL season, with the Orange Cap currently hanging on his head after the second match against Delhi Capitals. However, Virat Kohli also got off to a great start with an unbeaten half-century and will be keen to carry on during the second game as well.
Both these Indian legends still play ODIs for India and will be seen returning to the tricolor when India tour England for a white-ball series after the IPL in 2026.
