Punjab Kings (PBKS) captain Shreyas Iyer has been fined Rs 12 lakh for the team’s slow over-rate in Match 4 of IPL 2026 against Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Mullanpur Stadium on Tuesday, March 31. This is Iyer’s first over-rate offense in the ongoing Indian Premier League season.
Due to the slow over rate, PBKS had to field an extra fielder inside the circle for the final over of their innings. Left arm fast bowler Arshdeep Singh gave 12 runs including four wides in the last over. The team led by Shubman Gill scored 162/6 runs in 20 overs. PBKS achieved the target with five balls to spare.
Shreyas Iyer fined Rs 12 lakh for slow over-rate in PBKS vs GT clash
Punjab Kings star Shreyas Iyer faced a financial penalty after being found guilty of a slow over-rate during their IPL 2026 clash against Gujarat Titans. It is also the team’s first violation of the season under the IPL’s over-rate rules.
In relation to the offence, the IPL issued a media advisory which read (via www.iplt20.com):
“Punjab Kings (PBKS) captain Shreyas Iyer has been fined after maintaining a slow over-rate during Match No. 4 of the Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 against Gujarat Titans (GT) at the New International Cricket Stadium, New Chandigarh.”
Since this was his team’s first offense of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which deals with minimum over-rate offences, Iyer was fined Rs 12 lakh.
PBKS chases target despite late pressure
Invited to bat first, Gujarat Titans scored 162/6, with Shubman Gill, Jos Buttler and Glenn Phillips getting off to a good start. However, none of them took the lead towards a big score as Vijaykumar Vaish and Yuzvendra Chahal kept things in check.
Towards the end the innings lost momentum and Gujarat added only 34 runs in the last five overs. Their batsmen failed to change gears when needed, resulting in lower-than-usual scores on a good batting surface.
Punjab Kings were in a poor position with regular wickets falling in the middle overs, but Cooper Connolly sealed the victory with an unbeaten 72. Prabhsimran Singh scored 37 runs on 24 balls. Krishna, famous for GT, took three wickets in the match.
Shreyas Iyer sister’s Bhangra celebration goes viral after PBKS wins over GT
Punjab Kings’ victory was celebrated outside the stadium as well, in which Shreshtha Iyer, sister of Shreyas Iyer, caught everyone’s attention. A viral video showed him performing energetic Bhangra with family and friends soon after the team’s victory.
The room echoed with cheers and laughter as everyone joined in clapping at his lively antics. The celebration quickly gained popularity online, with fans enjoying traditional dances following the team’s success.
Many supporters felt that Bhangra reflected the identity and fan spirit of the Punjab Kings. As the video spread, it offered a glimpse of how such wins are valued at home, making the win over Gujarat Titans even more special for Iyer and his loved ones.
