Chennai Super Kings (CSK) CEO Kasi Vishwanathan has given a big update regarding the retirement of legendary cricketer MS Dhoni during the IPL 2026 season. This update comes as Dhoni is suffering from a calf strain problem, which has ruled him out of the major tournament for at least two weeks.

The Super Kings recently issued an official statement confirming that Dhoni will miss the first two weeks of the tournament. He is expected to be unavailable for the first three or four matches. The Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side will begin their campaign against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Guwahati on Monday.

Speaking to RevSportz, Kasi Vishwanathan said that MS Dhoni’s immense contribution to CSK has earned him lifelong support from Chennai fans, which is why he remains extremely popular.

“As far as I’m concerned, and as far as Dhoni is concerned, I think as a human being and as a cricketer who has done a lot for CSK, the Chennai team and the cricket-loving public of Chennai will always support a player who has contributed so much. That’s one of the reasons why Dhoni is so popular there.”

It is my and the franchise’s desire to become MS Dhoni – Kasi Vishwanathan

Kasi Vishwanathan said that MS Dhoni is popular all over the world but he has unmatched support in Chennai and Tamil Nadu. He said that the franchise wants Dhoni to remain associated with CSK in the future, while N Srinivasan will take any decision regarding Dhoni’s role after he retires.

“He is very popular even outside Chennai and Tamil Nadu, but Chennai and Tamil Nadu are probably ahead in this matter. When I said that he will always be a part of us, it is my wish and that of the franchise that Dhoni remains associated with Chennai Super Kings in some way or the other throughout his life.”

“We have not talked to him about this yet. Mr. Srinivasan is the only person who can talk to him on this, and I think whenever Dhoni decides to retire in the coming year, he will do so.”

MS Dhoni’s focus and commitment towards cricket never changed – Kasi Vishwanathan

Kasi Vishwanathan praised MS Dhoni’s unwavering commitment and discipline, saying that his work ethic has remained unchanged since 2007. He also said that their relationship is built on mutual respect, as he avoids troubling Dhoni and only interacts with him when necessary.

“His focus and commitment to cricket has never changed since I saw him in 2007. Even today, before the season starts, he comes to Chennai a month before and practices with the same intensity as he did at his peak. He has always had the same approach. His commitment and loyalty can never be questioned.”

“One thing I can say is that I have never been very close to Dhoni because I don’t go to his room or talk to him unless necessary. We share mutual respect, and that’s how we work. Whenever the need arises, we have the freedom to talk to him, and that’s all. I don’t really bother him at any other time.”

Dhoni is the player who has played the most matches in IPL history with 278 matches. In 2025, he scored 196 runs in 13 innings at a strike rate of 135.17. He led the team after regular captain Ruturaj Gaikwad suffered a season-ending elbow injury. However, CSK finished at the bottom of the table.
