BCCI took a big step to honor the victims of IPL 2025

The BCCI had decided to show sensitivity by remembering the 11 victims of the stampede tragedy in Bengaluru on June 4, as RCB’s celebrations of their maiden title win were ruined by the tragic incident.

Therefore, BCCI has decided to skip the traditional opening ceremony of IPL 2026. Therefore, as a result, there will be no celebrations at the opening of the IPL 2026 tournament. No such opening ceremony will be held before the Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Sunrisers Hyderabad match.

BCCI secretary Devijit Saikia was quoted by TOI as saying, “Due to the tragic incident that occurred on June 4 last year, there will be no formal ceremony on the opening day of IPL-2026 (in Bengaluru). BCCI is not organizing any cultural or entertainment program at the opening day of IPL-19 on June 4, 2025, as a mark of respect to the departed souls due to that tragedy.”

BCCI is planning a grand ceremony to conclude IPL 2026

On the other hand, the BCCI and the IPL-governing committee have planned to host a huge closing ceremony for the 19th season of the IPL on the IPL final day on May 31.

“However, the BCCI and the IPL Governing Council are planning a grand entertainment function at the conclusion of the IPL, on the day of the final (May 31),” Saikia told TOI.

In 2019, following the treacherous Pulwama attack that claimed the lives of 40 CRPF personnel, the BCCI was then run by the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA), which decided to cancel the opening ceremony and allocate funds to the families of the victims.

Royal Challengers Bangalore has returned to hosting matches at Chinnaswamy.

Royal Challengers Bangalore will host their home matches at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. The Bengaluru stadium was not considered ideal for hosting the games after the infamous stampede incident last season.

The KSCA president and the team worked hard to rebuild the stadium to standards ahead of this season; Therefore, the Challengers will play their 5 home matches, one playoff match and the final at this venue.

Chinnaswamy will also host the first two home matches of this season. The first match is to be played against Sunrisers Hyderabad on 28 March and then against Chennai Super Kings on 5 April.
