Former BCB secretary and ACC CEO Syed Ashraful Haq told that ICC will not be able to save BCB if the government takes some drastic steps against his administration, as it is a parent organization under them.

Earlier, Bangladesh Sports Minister Aminul Haq, while speaking to reporters, had indicated that both the NSC and the government would not take decisions unilaterally, and would only rely on reports before holding talks with the ICC.

He also claimed that earlier too, he was aware of the government’s direct interference in the BCB elections; However, they will take the next step only after talks with the ICC. Haq had made these claims on March 19.

NSC has the right to dissolve it – it’s in the laws – explained former BCB secretary

BCB have spent the first half of the year in the global focus as they stand against the BCCI and, as a result, the ICC following Mustafizur Rahman’s ejection from the IPL ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026.

The Bangladesh government announced an investigation into the election which led to the failure of Aminul Islam to emerge as BCB president. Former ACC CEO Syed Ashraful Haq said the board could be in trouble as it falls under the jurisdiction of the NSC.

“This is a kind of threat,” Ashraful told The Daily Star about BCB’s earlier warning to the government that they have spoken to the ICC regarding interference, so that they can be protected.

“It is quite ironic for the current board to complain to the ICC. If the BCB cannot run cricket well, the NSC has the right to disband it – it is in the laws,” he said.

NSC can do this without any questions because BCB is part of NSC- Syed Ashraful Haq

He then claimed that a paper trail had pointed to some damaging evidence into Aminul’s candidacy. BCB is sure to come under the immediate purview of the NSC and the Sports Ministry and if that happens, it is in some serious danger.

Bangladesh’s Sports and Youth Minister had claimed that the investigation was initiated with the intention of investigating ‘irregularities, manipulation and abuse of power’ in Aminul’s BCB, and that if any discrepancy was found then he could give some harsh reaction.

Ashraful further said, “Apart from other issues, the cricket league was not being run properly and if election laws were violated, they could disband it.” “The NSC can do this without any questions because the BCB is part of the NSC.”

The ICC cannot and will not interfere in the administration of the BCB.

Speaking about the ICC’s role in this battle between the BCB and the Bangladesh Sports Ministry, Ashraful warned that the BCB will have no recourse if the NSC chooses to go out with the nuclear option, which does not give the ICC sufficient regulatory jurisdiction.

He explained, “The ICC also cannot raise any objection as it is mentioned in the BCB Constitution, which the ICC follows. Yes, the ICC has guidelines regarding good governance through democratic elections, but they are guidelines, not mandatory requirements.”

He further said, “We are under the ICC, but first of all we are under the NSC, which is the parent body. As long as the BCB constitution is followed, the ICC does not interfere in the domestic administration.”

After this he further said that Pakistan changed its board chairman several times within a few months and then ICC did not intervene. He then added, “The ICC is not our boss; they are facilitators and friends. They will abide by the Constitution.”
