The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has dismissed growing security concerns regarding foreign players traveling for the upcoming PSL 2026. Despite the recent military air strikes in Kabul, which left more than 400 casualties, the board is confident that the tournament will go ahead with its international players.
Pakistan and Afghanistan remain in a state of open conflict following the rapid escalation of border hostilities. The 11th edition of the domestic franchise tournament is scheduled to begin on March 26. Notably, the tournament has been expanded to an eight-team format and will overlap with the IPL.
Australia issues travel warning for PSL 2026 amid security concerns
The Australian government has given clearance to its players to participate in the tournament but has issued strict travel advisories. Officials have warned players to stay away from Peshawar altogether due to serious security threats and its distance of about 40 to 50 kilometers from the volatile Afghanistan border.
The city is currently under a ‘do not travel’ advisory. Peshawar’s Imran Khan Stadium is scheduled to host two matches on Saturday, March 28. However, as per a report by Code Sports, the feasibility of these fixtures is under serious doubt amid the current situation.
Australian players and support staff have already received detailed security briefings regarding potential travel disruptions and conflict-related risks. The Pakistan Cricket Board has also taken contingency measures, including an emergency evacuation plan using chartered flights if the situation worsens.
PCB dismisses concerns over Australian players ahead of PSL 2026
According to a PTI report, the Pakistan Cricket Board took note of the growing speculation. He denied reports that the Australian contingent felt uncomfortable traveling to the country amid the ongoing border conflict and broader Middle East instability.
“All travel arrangements and plans are in place and all the Australian players we have signed for PSL 11 will start arriving from next week,” a board source told PTI.
The organizers stressed that they were not worried by the current situation. The board said it has successfully managed similar logistical and security challenges in previous editions, ensuring that player safety remains the top priority.
Australian players ready to lead and perform in PSL 2026
Several high-profile Australian cricketers have signed contracts for the upcoming PSL season. Steve Smith, David Warner, Glenn Maxwell, Adam Zampa, Peter Siddle, Aaron Hardie, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Josh Philippe, Riley Meredith and Ben McDermott will play for their respective franchises.
Three Australian players will take on leadership roles during the tournament. Marnus Labuschagne has joined Hyderabad Houston Kingsmen as a direct signing and will lead the team, while David Warner will captain Karachi Kings and Ashton Turner will lead Multan Sultans as overseas captain this season.
The tournament will begin at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, with Lahore Qalandars facing newly formed Hyderabad Houston Kingsmen in the opening match, just two days before the start of the Indian Premier League.
