Within a day of BCB asking Bangladesh Sports Ministry to close the investigation into Bangladesh’s exit from the ICC T20 World Cup, the Sports and Youth Minister announced that another parallel investigation committee will be formed to impartially investigate the issue before reaching any conclusion.
Bangladesh suddenly boycotted the ICC T20 World Cup, which appeared to be the most impractical decision taken by the BCB in modern times. He dared to threaten the ICC for reasons and concerns that were nothing more than tantrums on the part of the Board because of the animosity he had towards the host nation, India.
ICC made several attempts to resolve the matter between the two countries, but BCB remained adamant. Ultimately, their demands were not met and Bangladesh boycotted the ICC tournament, although it seemed that the players were keen to play the tournament. Scotland replaced them in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026.
I will form an investigation committee- Bangladesh minister alerts BCB on T20 World Cup failure
After the national board asked the Bangladesh Sports Ministry to close the investigation related to the ICC T20 World Cup boycott, their Minister of State for Youth and Sports Aminul Haq has considered conducting another investigation, this time through an impartial investigation committee, to verify whether the boycott was a result of diplomatic failure.
This may have shaken the stance of top brass in the BCB, including BCB President, Aminul Islam Bulbul, who played a major role in the boycott as he had cited security concerns in India and demanded an unfair swap of venues on the doorstep of the World Cup event.
“I have already spoken about these issues – why we could not participate in the World Cup of Cricket and where exactly our shortcomings lie in sports diplomacy. These are matters which we must investigate thoroughly.”
“Maybe after Eid, I will form an inquiry committee (to find out the reason behind not taking part in the ICC T20 World Cup) and based on its findings, we will take necessary steps,” Aminul Haq said.
He also said that he is looking forward to reviving healthy relations with India and the BCCI; Therefore, it is important to identify the root cause of the insult. He also shared his belief that sports is the only front where a nation breaks the barriers of caste and religion and stands together as a unified nation.
Aminul Haq had revealed irregularities in BCB elections.
Along with a review of his diplomatic efficiency, the formation of this body is also related to several complaints received from various stakeholders regarding irregularities in the last BCB election.
He said, “At this point, I would like to mention that during the tenure of the previous government, there was direct interference in the cricket board elections from the government side – which you all know about. I myself had spoken about this several times.”
Aminul said, “But after we took over the responsibility, many complaints came from cricket stakeholders – clubs and district level. Keeping these in mind, we formed an inquiry committee and I am currently waiting for its report.”
He further said that several instructions were issued to the investigation committee through the NSC, and they have also been instructed to talk to every relevant authority, including the Election Commission and the current BCB president.
Bangladesh aims to resolve issues with ICC before 2027 World Cup
Ahead of the 2027 ICC ODI World Cup, Bangladesh is aiming to resolve its issues with India as well as the Jay Shah-led ICC. After being dropped from the T20 World Cup, he had made many disgusting allegations against the ICC and accused it of being biased.
According to the report, the questionable election process needs to be assessed through an impartial investigation. Hence, the Sports Minister claimed that the committee is working on it and he is waiting for their report.
“I will review it, consult with members of the investigating committee and also speak directly to the ICC before taking any further steps,” he said. He said Bangladesh is now looking to settle its terms with the BCB.
