new zealand Performed brilliantly in the second T20I against South Africa Registering at Seddon Park, Hamilton comprehensive win by 68 runs. The standout performer in the match was Devon Conway, whose patient and impressive innings laid the foundation for the hosts to post a mammoth score of 175/6 in 20 overs.
South Africa won the toss and decided to bowl first, after which New Zealand’s innings got off to a slow start but lacked initial pace. Wicketkeeper-batsman Tom Latham scored 11 runs before becoming the victim of Keshav Maharaj. Tim Robinson struggled to find rhythm and was out cheaply, leaving the hosts in a slightly cautious position during the powerplay.
However, Conway stood firm at one end and displayed remarkable control and shot selection. His 60 off 49 balls included five fours and two sixes, hitting at an impressive pace of over 122. His ability to rotate the strike and build partnerships proved vital in stabilizing the innings.
Nick Kelly provided some momentum with a quickfire 21 off just 12 balls, while captain Mitchell Santner added a valuable 20. Although wickets continued to fall at regular intervals, Conway’s presence ensured that New Zealand maintained a steady run rate throughout the innings.
A late flourish came from Josh Clarkson, whose explosive innings of 26 not out from just 9 balls lifted the total significantly. Cole McConchie He also played an unbeaten inning of 18 runs, helping New Zealand finish strongly at 175/6 – a much better score on the Hamilton surface.
South African bowlers are performing well but lack consistency
South Africa’s bowling attack showed glimpses of control but struggled to maintain consistency, especially in the death overs. Wiaan Mulder and Otniel Baartman were among the more economical bowlers, both taking vital wickets to keep the scoring under control during the middle overs.
Mulder’s disciplined spell resulted in two wickets for 14 runs in his two overs, which also included the dismissal of Conway. Bartman also impressed with figures of 1/31 while applying pressure at crucial junctures. George Linde and Gerald Coetzee took one wicket each, but their relatively high economy rate allowed New Zealand to rebuild and gain momentum.
Keshav Maharaj, who is leading the team, found it difficult to bowl with the ball and despite taking one wicket, he gave away 45 runs in his three overs. The lack of breakthroughs during important partnerships helped New Zealand post challenging scores.
Despite restricting the hosts early, South Africa failed to fully take advantage, especially as Clarkson’s late onslaught added vital runs which eventually led to a significant margin.
New Zealand bowlers dominate after South Africa’s collapse
Chasing 176 to win, South Africa’s batting lineup faltered under the pressure of New Zealand’s disciplined and aggressive bowling attack. The visiting team was all out for just 107 runs in 15.3 overs and remained far away from the target.

The innings got off to a poor start, with Wiaan Mulder and Connor Esterhuizen both out early, leaving South Africa struggling at 29/2. The early departure of Tony De Zorzi added to their troubles, as the top order failed to form any meaningful partnerships.
Rubin Harman provided a brief spark by scoring 19 runs from 12 balls, but his dismissal led to a middle-order collapse. Jason Smith and Dianne Forrester were unable to get the innings going, while George Linde’s aggressive 33 from 12 balls left it too late to turn the match.
New Zealand’s bowlers were tireless. Lockie Ferguson led the attack with an excellent spell, taking three wickets and maintaining strong control. Ben Sears equaled his impact by taking three wickets as he efficiently dismantled the lower order.
Captain Mitchell Santner also played an important role and created pressure in the middle overs by taking two wickets. Cole McConchie and James Neesham contributed with one wicket each, ensuring that the South African batsmen were given no respite.
Devon Conway was named player of the match for his strong innings at the top.
