The Indian left-handed batsman is all set to captain Sunrisers Hyderabad in the absence of Pat Cummins in IPL 2026. However, Ishan Kishan and not Abhishek Sharma may step forward as SRH captain.
There has been some major confusion over the ongoing discussion on social media regarding the appointment of Abhishek Sharma as the captain of the Sunrisers Hyderabad team in the absence of Pat Cummins for the first few matches of the IPL.
However, a report in The Times of India claims otherwise, and it looks like Abhishek Sharma’s bad luck continues even after the T20 World Cup in 2026, as the golden opportunity to lead an IPL franchise has been snatched away from him.
Ishan Kishan’s ‘bull run’ continues with new role for SRH in 2026
Indian batsman Ishan Kishan’s fortunes are speaking for him in 2026 as he made a surprise comeback into the Indian XI right on the doorstep of the T20 World Cup and then emerged as the most consistent performer with 319 runs in his maiden T20 World Cup tournament.
After tremendous success in the Indian team, now he has been promoted by Sunrisers Hyderabad team in IPL. The Jharkhand captain, who led them to the SMAT title in 2025, will now lead SRH in the absence of Pat Cummins.
Cummins’ availability is a big uncertainty this season. The Times of India report claims that the SRH management has had a long discussion, and they have decided that Kishan is best suited for the role of wearing the captain’s armband in the absence of the Australian World Cup-winning skipper.
