Former England captain Michael Vaughan recently revealed his biggest picks from the history of the Indian Premier League during an entertaining segment on Cricbuzz. The cricketer turned commentator quickly answered questions about several cricket legends and the video caught the attention of fans.
His revelation came just before IPL 2026. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently announced the schedules for the first phase. Defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will host Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the opening match at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on March 28.
Michael Vaughan chose Virat Kohli as the best batsman of IPL
When Michael Vaughan was asked to name the best IPL batsman of all time, he first mentioned big names like Chris Gayle, Suresh Raina, Rohit Sharma and Jos Buttler. However, he finally said that Virat Kohli is above all other great batsmen.
“The best batsmen of the IPL, there have been a few. I mean Universe Boss Chris Gayle, Suresh Raina have been exceptional, Rohit Sharma, England’s Jos Buttler have been great, but there is only one. And that is Virat Kohli. He has been a star for many years and he is still going, so he is Virat Kohli.”

Kohli has scored more than 8,000 runs in his IPL career. The right-handed batsman is the leading run-scorer in the tournament. He also holds the record for most runs in a season by scoring 973 runs in 2016. Kohli has scored eight centuries, the most by any batsman in IPL history.
Michael Vaughan called Jasprit Bumrah the best bowler of IPL
Michael Vaughan was also asked to name the best bowler in IPL history. He mentioned players like Rashid Khan and Lasith Malinga, but said that Jasprit Bumrah is the best bowler he has seen in competitive cricket.
“The best bowlers in the IPL, quite a few. Rashid Khan has been very good, Lasith Malinga, but I keep saying this, the best I have ever seen is Jasprit Bumrah.”
Bumrah has been a key bowler for Mumbai Indians since joining the team in 2013. He has often performed well in pressure situations and was part of the franchise’s five IPL title wins during their golden era.
Michael Vaughan picks Mumbai Indians as the best IPL team
Michael Vaughan also named the best team in IPL history. He chose Mumbai Indians over Chennai Super Kings. Vaughan said that Mumbai Indians have brought a special wow factor to the IPL.
“Best IPL team of all time, CSK? Mumbai Indians? Mumbai Indians. I think they bring a bit of the wow factor. It’s Mumbai.”
Under the leadership of MS Dhoni, Chennai Super Kings have won five titles in 2010, 2011, 2018, 2021 and 2023. Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians have also won five IPL championships.
Mumbai Indians last won the IPL trophy in 2020 under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, while Chennai Super Kings won their most recent title under the leadership of MS Dhoni. Both teams will aim to become the first to win a sixth IPL title in 2026.
