In a major development, Pakistan national cricket team Champions Trophy-winning captain Sarfaraz Ahmed has announced his retirement from international cricket.
On March 15, 2026, Sarfaraz Ahmed ended an illustrious career spanning two decades in which he scored over 6000 runs in international cricket and led Pakistan to victory in the ICC Champions Trophy 2017.
Sarfaraz said, “Representing Pakistan has been the greatest honor of my life. From leading the U19 team to the world title in 2006 to winning the ICC Champions Trophy in 2017, every moment in Pakistan’s colors has been special. I am grateful to my teammates, coaches, family and fans for their unwavering support throughout my career.”
“Captaining Pakistan in all formats was a dream come true. I always tried to play fearless cricket and build a cohesive team. Seeing Babar Azam, Fakhar Zaman, Hasan Ali, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Shadab Khan and other players become match winners during my captaincy is one of my proudest achievements.”
He concluded, “I would like to thank the Pakistan Cricket Board for the confidence they have shown in me for so many years. Pakistan cricket has always been very close to my heart and I will continue to support the game in every possible way.”
