A short video of former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Aamir attracted a lot of attention from cricket fans on social media platforms. Through the video, Aamir has suggested that Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) should bring in players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to provide stability in the batting order.
Mohammad Aamir has been quite vocal since the beginning of T20 World Cup 2026. When he worked as a cricket expert for most of the tournament, he was mostly against India. But now, he has asked the PCB to follow the footsteps of BCCI.
Why does Pakistan cricket team need players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli?
In many national ICC events, Pakistan has repeatedly failed to do anything significant. They were eliminated at the Super 8 stage before reaching the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2026. The team faced a lot of criticism due to continuous disappointing results.
Many former Pakistani cricketers discussed the team combination, which could be a major reason behind their continued struggles in many national tournaments. Just a few days ago, they had lost the ODI match against Bangladesh in Dhaka.
Mohammad Aamir says Pakistan needs players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli
The former Pakistan fast bowler asked the cricket board to find some players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli who can deliver steady performances. Aamir mentioned Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli because of their habit of scoring runs continuously. However, he opined against Abhishek Sharma, who is known for his explosive innings in the T20 format.
Mohammad Amir said, “We do not need a player like Abhishek Sharma, who could not perform consistently. In 10-12 matches, he can score well in 2-3 matches, so we do not need players like Abhishek Sharma. We saw his struggle in the T20 World Cup 2026. We need players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli who are able to bat with consistency.”
Meanwhile, the Pakistan cricket team is currently in Bangladesh for a 3-match ODI series. The scoreline is 1-1 after the first two matches. The third match will decide who will win the bilateral series.
PCB has named several uncapped players to face Bangladesh
For the ODI series against Bangladesh, Pakistan’s cricket governing body dropped star players like Babar Azam and included several uncapped players in the squad. As the Salman Ali Aga-led side bows out of the 2026 T20 World Cup, it was reported that the PCB was considering a major overhaul to shape the team for the future.
For the March 2026 ODI tour of Bangladesh, Pakistan included six uncapped players in their 15-man squad, indicating a major rebuild after a poor T20 World Cup. Abdul Samad, Maaz Sadaqat, Muhammad Ghazi Ghori, Saad Masood, Sahibzada Farhan, and Shamil Hussain have all earned debut call-ups in the ODI setup.
