The auction of male players of The Hundred has concluded, causing a lot of stir on social media platforms. Since the league’s inception in 2021, this was the first auction to be held so far. On Thursday, March 12, 2026, The Hundred (men’s competition) held its first player auction at Piccadilly Lights in central London.

The upcoming season is going to be more exciting not only because of the players auction but also because of the arrival of new owners. The Hundred has new owners, the IPL-owned franchise has bought a stake in the Hundred.

James Coles becomes highest paid player in Hundred

Of all the star players in the auction, 21-year-old English all-rounder James Coles received the heaviest pay check of the evening. The Sussex talent was sold to London Spirit for £390k. The emerging talent is currently an uncapped cricketer who is ready to take a big leap in the near future. The left-arm spin bowler, who can hit the ball hard, recently won the SA20 tournament in South Africa.

Former England star Eoin Morgan told Sky Sports on the development, “I’m delighted. I like the fact it’s gone to a guy who’s got the pedigree in first-class cricket and who’s taken it forward.”

Sunrisers Leads chose Abrar Ahmed

Some of the most famous franchise owners of the Indian Premier League (IPL) have made themselves part of English franchise cricket. Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) co-owner Kavya Maran was among the central figures during the auction at Piccadilly Lights in central London.

After much controversy over the past few weeks, the player auction for the Hundred League concluded with much fanfare. Pakistan spinner Abrar Ahmed immediately grabbed the headlines as SRH-backed Sunrisers Leeds secured the services of the bowler.
