The Pakistan Super League will see massive improvements in the upcoming season, as many franchises have added new players and appointed new captains for the team. Former Australian legend David Warner has also been appointed captain of one of the franchises.
The PSL has added two new players in the upcoming season, and hence all the teams are making changes to their squads with a big auction held earlier. While some players were officially retained by the teams, Karachi Kings retained their star player David Warner.
The Pakistan Super League will be played from March 26, and hence, it is sure to clash with the IPL 2026 season. This will be the 11th season of the PSL and will include many new players who have joined the tournament after being eliminated from the IPL.
David Warner appointed captain of Karachi Kings
PSL franchise Karachi Kings has picked David Warner to play his first PSL season in 2025, as the former Australian legend was dropped from the IPL in 2024 after a poor season. Kings retained him for PKR 7.90 crore during the auction.
Warner will now lead the team as their captain after serving as the premier batsman of the Karachi Kings team, scoring 368 runs in 11 matches and leading them to the knockouts last season. He batted at a strike rate of 153.97.

Warner is the third highest paid foreign cricketer in PSL
In the PSL auction for the first time since moving away from its traditional draft system, Australian veteran batsman Steve Smith was marked as the highest paid cricketer. New franchise Sialkot Stallions signed him outright for PKR 14 crore.
This choice based on Smith’s exploits in PSL is commendable and not many Pakistani cricketers have crossed the Rs 8.65 crore mark after this. However, New Zealand all-rounder Daryl Mitchell remained at the second position with Rs 8.05 crore.
Australian T20 kingpin David Warner was retained by Karachi Kings in the team and paid him a huge amount of Rs 7.9 crore. He became the third highest paid foreign player of PSL 2026.

Australia’s T20 cricket legend David Warner has scored 14028 runs in over 432 matches in the shortest format of the game. In his illustrious career, he has 10 centuries to his name and he batted at a strike rate of 140.64.
A true legend of the IPL, he scored 6565 runs in the world’s most prestigious T20 tournament and is the most successful overseas player in Indian domestic tournaments. He has also been playing a full-time role for the Sydney Sixers in the last two BBL seasons and has scored 838 runs in 20 matches.
After his impressive debut for Karachi Kings in 2025, he also debuted in Men’s Hundred and MLC. Warner has been a regular contributor, no matter which tournament or franchise he has featured in.
