An amazing moment for Team India. For the first time in the history of T20 World Cup, a team successfully defended its title and that too on its home soil. Team India won the trophy for the second consecutive time by defeating New Zealand by a huge margin of 96 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah was chosen as the player of the match.
Sanju Samson, Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan and Shivam Dubey organized a feast of runs in the first innings of the T20 World Cup 2026 final. In the second innings, the Men in Blue brigade continued to dominate New Zealand cricket, mainly due to the bowling of Jasprit Bumrah and Axar Patel. While Patel took 3 wickets, Bumrah took 4 wickets.
Jasprit Bumrah has been given the title of best player of T-20 World Cup 2026 final.
Like every Indian at this time, Jasprit Bumrah is also filled with happiness. Very special moment for him. Winning the Player of the Match award, and that too in the final match, was not everyone’s cup of tea. In his 4-over spell, the seamer took the wickets of Rachin Ravindra, New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner, James Neesham and Matt Henry at an economy rate of only 3.75.
“It feels very special because I have played a final on my home ground but couldn’t win it, but today I won. I knew the wicket was flat, so I had to use all my experience. Before this tournament, I was in that zone where I felt I was putting in too much effort because I was bowling well, but I felt I was putting in too much effort”, said Jasprit Bumrah after the grand finale.
“In this tournament, I just tried to let the game come to me, and that’s been really good. My personal assessment has always been my strength, and to get MOTM on my home ground in the World Cup final, it doesn’t get any better than that”, he added.
Jasprit Bumrah talks about his bowling evolution
This fast bowler is mostly known for bowling pinpoint yorkers. But through years of hard work and practice, he also became adept at changing pace. Throughout the T20 World Cup 2026, Bumrah’s pace variation gradually became a topic of debate.
The veteran fast bowler spoke about his bowling, “Because of the experience, because I have played here at the Belters, and I have seen other teams as well, I have learned that trying to bowl too fast can make it easier to get shots. So just played smart, and tried to think about what the batsmen were trying to do.”
This victory is based on the pure performance of the team
Above all, it was all about team play and maintaining composure in crucial moments. Team India did everything right tonight.
“Whenever we discuss, they always come up with options. And when communication is needed, we do that. We never panic. Kept our heads above water. Teams that do that, they win tournaments and I’m very glad we did that,” he said.
