This center pitch has hosted only one match during the T20 World Cup, which was the Canada vs South Africa match played almost a month ago on 9 February. South Africa, after being invited to bat, made a strong score of 213 runs and eventually won easily by 53 runs.

Team India has played at the Narendra Modi Stadium twice during this 2026 tournament. In their final group stage match on 18 February, they secured a 17-run win over the Netherlands after scoring 193 on a red clay pitch.
However, India suffered a heavy 76-run defeat against South Africa during the Super Eight stage on 22 February. Notably, this match was played on a black soil pitch, which is slow and can provide little grip. South Africa defended 187 runs, handing India their only defeat in the tournament so far.
The pitch expected for Sunday is a far cry from the all-black clay surface used during the 2023 ODI World Cup final at the same venue. Notably, the dry and slow pitch worked against India’s strengths, leading to a six-wicket loss to Australia.
