Ajinkya Rahane named Player of the Tournament: The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 is in its final stages. The tournament was exciting right from the first match of the competition. After 20 teams competed against each other, it has come down to the final showpiece where India will take on New Zealand in the tournament final on Sunday, March 8 at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.
There have been some exciting games and some upsets over the past month. From USA’s Shadley Van Schalkwyk to Blessing Muzarabani, some players surprised everyone with their exceptional performances in the tournament. These cricketers have registered their names in the tournament with their brilliant performance.
Ajinkya Rahane changed his name to POTT
Ahead of the final, former India captain Ajinkya Rahane has dropped his prediction for the Player of the Tournament. In a video uploaded on X (formerly Twitter), Rahane picked his top three players for the best player of the tournament. There is a surprising pic in the video he has uploaded.
Ajinkya Rahane said, “Hello everyone, I am going to choose my top three contenders for the Aramco Player of the Tournament. The first name for me is Varun Chakravarthy. He is bowling so well. Varun’s contribution with the ball has been amazing. He has been very good for the Indian team.”
Second, Lungi Ngidi- Ajinkya Rahane
Ajinkya Rahane further added, “Secondly, Lungi Ngidi, again a bowler who is performing really well for South Africa. And Aiden Markram, contributing with the bat. He has been amazing for them. Let me know what’s yours and go and vote for your Aramco Player of the Tournament.”

Varun Chakravarthy has been the joint-highest wicket-taker in the tournament with 13 wickets. He has been off form for some matches and has given away a lot of runs. However, everyone is well aware of how much danger Varun Chakraborty poses on his day. Varun Charvarthy is just one wicket away from becoming the highest wicket-taker in the tournament. Varun Chakraborty will have to give his best performance in the final.
Lungi Ngidi has been ruled out of the tournament as South Africa lost to New Zealand in the semi-finals. However, the fast bowler’s performance in the T20 World Cup was excellent and he took 12 wickets in 7 matches and was the highest wicket taker for the team. His pace-off balls remained lethal throughout the tournament.
On the other hand, Aiden Markram led his team from the front. Scored 268 runs in seven matches at a strike rate of more than 170. Markram’s captaincy was also excellent throughout the tournament. He was heartbroken in the semi-final against New Zealand.
POTT Who will win?
Apart from these three, there are other players like Will Jacks, who has won four Player of the Match awards. He almost single-handedly won games for England and helped them qualify for the semi-finals of the tournament.
Sahibzada Farhan is also in the contention list with 383 runs, and has scored almost 40% of the team’s runs. It will be an interesting contest as we reach the end of the tournament.
