The IPL 2026 season is scheduled to begin on March 28. Ahead of the opening match of the season, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain Ruturaj Gaikwad made a big promise during the team’s jersey launch event.
Ruturaj Gaikwad will continue to be the captain of the five-time league winners in the upcoming season. Through the event, the star Indian batsman promised to go for the sixth title in the IPL 2026 campaign.

At the team’s jersey launch event, along with captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, Under-19 Team India captain and CSK’s young talent Ayush Mhatre was present on the stage along with MD and CEO, Shenu Agarwal and President, Dheeraj Hinduja. Through the jersey launch event, the franchise welcomes Ashok Leyland as the official sponsor of the team.
With the IPL 2026 season as the only target, Chennai Super Kings have already appointed assistant coach Rajeev Kumar and assistant bowling coach S. Sriram has started pre-season training at his High Performance Center in Navalur. Gaikwad, former team captain MS Dhoni, Ayush Mhatre, Urvil Patel, Mukesh Chaudhary and Prashant Veer are some of the Indian cricketers who attended the camp on Saturday.
Foreign cricketers are expected to join the camp later this month. Former New Zealand cricketer and CSK head coach Stephen Fleming and bowling coach Eric Simmons are expected to join the team by March 16.
Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad has promised to strive to bring a sixth IPL title
Apart from the jersey launch and sponsorship announcement, the highlight of the event was a short speech by CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, who said that no target is unattainable. They will definitely be going for the sixth IPL trophy in the upcoming season.
“Koi manzil door nahi he (No target is unattainable). Certainly, we will go for the sixth title this year”, said captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, following which the audience applauded heavily.
Chennai Super Kings won their fifth IPL trophy in 2023. In the next two seasons, he faced setbacks. In IPL 2024, they missed the playoffs by only a small margin. But their most disappointing encounter came during the IPL 2025 campaign, when they finished the season as the bottom-placed team on the points table.
