Abhishek Sharma’s off form continues. In the semi-final against England, the opener was out after scoring 9 runs in 7 balls. The southpaw looked in good touch and hit two fours against spinner Will Jacks in the second over of the first innings.
Both the boundaries were on the off side. Jack immediately corrected himself and bowled the last ball of the second over on the legs. Sharma used his wrists to hoist the ball across the boundary line. The ball got height but not distance. Phil Salt took an easy catch.
Abhishek Sharma’s third out against off-spinner in T20 World Cup 2026
This is the third time in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026 that an Indian batsman was out against an off-spinner. Netherlands spinner Aryan Dutt, Pakistan captain Salman Ali Aga and now England off-spinner Will Jacques sent Abhishek Sharma.
The 25-year-old batsman indicated that he is back in form by scoring a half-century against Zimbabwe in the Super 8 match. This was necessary for the team in the game and they accomplished it. The half-century was like a breath of fresh air for the team as well as the batsman.
The half-century turned into a drizzle instead of a storm.
But the next two matches showed that Abhishek Sharma’s run drought is not over yet. In the semi-finals, at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, when the team needed him most, the left-handed batsman again missed the mark, and that too against an off-spinner. The Indian cricket fans present in the gallery were in complete disbelief as the batsman looked confident.
The two fours he hit came straight from the middle of the bat. Will Jack was so smart that he changed his line and length to deceive Sharma. Instead of pitching the last ball of the over on off, he bowled it on leg. Sharma tried to go over midwicket but failed to execute the shot as per his original plan.
England’s spinners get very little space to swing the bat. Abhishek created a connection between bat and ball, but it proved to be insufficient to hit a four. It was an easy catch for Phil Salt. One wicket of India has fallen for only 20 runs.

His batting average is 12.71 with a strike rate of 130.88. At the Asia Cup 2025, playing in multiple matches, he had a batting average of 44.85 and a whopping strike rate of 200.00.
Fans react to another Abhishek Sharma low score
The way Sharma Abhishek is playing right now, it seems as if he is a novice boy who just wants to establish his organization on every ball.
Neither understanding the situation, nor realizing the value of the wicket.

How many times have I paid Abhishek Sharma as a one-hit wonder batsman who doesn’t have a place in the team.
Getting opportunities again and again is one of the reasons for Abhishek becoming golden. #AbhishekSharma #INDvsENG pic.twitter.com/cqNcAdO9ZT
