The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is likely to make several changes to its T20I squad after the conclusion of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2026. If things mature as per the latest updates, then Salman Ali Aga is sure to be removed from the captaincy role.
According to the latest media reports, Pakistan Cricket Board Chief Mohsin Naqvi is ‘unhappy’ with the performance of the Pakistan National Cricket Team in the tournament.
Mohsin Naqvi has made up his mind to remove Salman Ali Aga from the captaincy.
He is so disappointed with the performance that he has already made up his mind to sack Salman Ali Aga from his current role. The blame may also fall on some other senior players of the team including Babar Azam.
Ahead of Pakistan’s crucial clash against Sri Lanka in their final match of the Super 8, major updates related to the team have emerged. It is believed that Naqvi will also informally discuss with head coach Mike Hesson about the possible change in captaincy. At present it is being heard that there are two names in the race to replace Agha.

“Naqvi is not at all happy as this time he was assured by the selectors, the team management and his close associates on the board that the team is set to do well in the World Cup,” PTI reported.
The report further claimed, “Salman, Babar Azam, Usman Khan and a few others will probably see their T20 international careers draw a curtain after the World Cup.”
Established players like Shaheen Afridi and Shadab Khan can be considered as the successors of Salman Ali Aga. However, nothing is final yet. It is expected that the PCB will take the final decision after the T20 World Cup 2026. If they qualify for the semi-finals, the players, especially Babar Azam, Salman Ali Aga and Usman Khan, should try to produce miraculous performances to win.
Therefore, after the World Cup, you can expect major changes in the Pakistan T20 set-up, the report further added.
How can Pakistan still qualify for the T20 World Cup 2026 semi-finals?
Today Pakistan will take on Sri Lanka at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, Balagolla for their last Super 8 match. As per the Group 2 points table scenario, the Aga-led side can still qualify for the semi-finals if they manage to defeat Sri Lanka by a good margin.
They need to confirm 3 points and a net run rate of over +1.390 to overcome New Zealand and enter the next stage of the T20 World Cup 2026. Currently, New Zealand is at the second position in the group with 3 points and a net run rate of +1.390. Therefore, the men in green have no option but to defeat Sri Lanka without creating any fuss.
