Former Pakistan captain Mohammad Yousuf has spoken out against the PCB and Pakistan’s domestic structure for the technical flaws in Babar Azam’s batting. They have cleared the person of any mistakes and explained what exactly could have helped correct these mistakes.
Pakistan have already put their campaign in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 in jeopardy due to some strange decisions by their head coach Mike Hesson and the rest of the management. Despite the veteran’s consistent failures in the format, he continued with Babar Azam.
Furthermore, Pakistan relied heavily on their spinners and often did not bowl to their seamers at full strength, which they suffered when Harry Brook targeted their spinners in the match against England.
Babar Azam has received some support from former Pakistan captain
As Pakistan have struggled mightily with the bat, the blame has largely been placed on Babar Azam, one of the most experienced stars of that eleven. This batsman has been out of form in the T20 format for a long time and is being criticized a lot for his poor strike rate.
Due to his lack of form, Babar was dropped from the Pakistan squad for the Asia Cup, but was eventually brought back in the preparation series ahead of the T20 World Cup. To prepare for this World Cup, he also made his BBL debut, where he failed miserably.
Pakistan’s cricket analysts have criticized Babar Azam after he did not play a single impressive innings in this World Cup. However, he has been supported by former Pakistan captain Mohammad Yousuf, who believes that the mistake is not something to be corrected by an individual but by the system.
Yusuf believes that all the analysts and coaches commenting on Azam’s technique are just trying to hide his flaws. He said the issue was clearly not about Babar’s technique, but about the overall sporting structure in Pakistan.
“Experts are now commenting on #BabarAzam’s technique, but their knowledge and understanding is completely flawed. They do this to avoid admitting their failures as analysts and coaches, as they opposed me when I first raised this issue,” he wrote on his X post.
He then continued to support him and said that such matters of technical and mental conditioning can only be solved by joint efforts between individual cricketers and other players who are experts on such practices.
He said, “They question why I did not take action, yet they fail to recognize that matters of technicality, fitness and mental conditioning cannot be solved by individuals. These issues must be systematically addressed by experts through academies, integrated into corrective exercises in the domestic setup and ultimately validated through the selectors’ consideration.”
Experts are now commenting on this #bAbARAJadeAmhave the technology, but their knowledge and understanding is completely flawed. They do this to avoid admitting their failures as analysts and trainers, as they opposed me when I first raised this issue. They question why I did not take action…

Will Babar Azam continue to play T20I for Pakistan after ICC T20 World Cup 2026?
This remains a big question from Pakistan’s perspective: can they qualify for the next phase of the ICC T20 World Cup, and if they fail to progress, will players like Babar Azam continue to be stars for them in the future?
According to the words of cricket analysts in Pakistan, Babar Azam is unlikely to get the support he has had overall over the years. Apart from this, the retention of captaincy of captain Salman Ali Aga will also be under scrutiny. Hence, Babar Azam’s retention remains the next big thing in Pakistan cricket.
