Pakistan is set to take on England in the fifth match of the T20 World Cup 2026 Super 8 stage at the Pallekele Stadium on Tuesday, February 24. There is curiosity among fans regarding the weather conditions as the Salman Ali Aga-led side’s first Super 8 match against New Zealand was abandoned due to rain.
Pakistan and England have faced each other thrice so far in the T20 World Cup. England have won all three matches, including the 2022 T20 World Cup final. The two teams last played a T20 match against each other in 2024, when England won by seven wickets, chasing the target of 158 runs in 15.3 overs.

The matches in Kandy are likely to be played without any weather interruption as there is very little chance of rain as per the forecast. Conditions are expected to remain stable. Specifically, the result should depend on the performance of both teams rather than external factors.
During the game, the temperature is expected to be around 19 degrees Celsius, creating cool and comfortable conditions for the players. The sky is expected to remain mostly clear, which will help in maintaining good visibility and even playing conditions till the evening.
Winds are expected to be light, coming from the south-southeast at about 6 km/h, with gusts up to 13 km/h. Although this should not affect the batting or bowling too much, fielders may need to be cautious when dealing with high catches.
Pakistan vs New Zealand Super Eight match canceled due to rain
Pakistan’s previous Super Eight match against New Zealand was abandoned due to rain at the R Premadasa International Cricket Stadium on Saturday. Both the teams were forced to share one point each.
Play was stopped immediately after Pakistan captain Salman Ali Aga won the toss and elected to bat. Heavy rain continued for more than two and a half hours, leaving the match officials with no option but to cancel the contest.
The Super Eight stage is important, as the top two teams from each group will qualify for the semi-finals on March 4 and 5. Under the tournament’s fusion formula, Pakistan will play all its T20 World Cup 2026 matches in Sri Lanka.
If Pakistan qualifies, the first semi-final will be held at the R Premadasa Stadium. If they do not progress then the match will be played at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. The venue of the final on March 8 will also depend on Pakistan’s progress.
England entered the match after a low-scoring win against Sri Lanka
England will arrive for the match having won against Sri Lanka in a low-scoring match in Pallekele. After a poor effort with the bat, their bowlers stepped forward and turned the match in their favor.
Phil Salt scored 62 runs from 40 balls, but the rest of the lineup struggled on a dry and difficult pitch. The Harry Brook-led side finished their innings at 146/9 in the allotted 20 overs.
Sri Lanka went into the chase as favourites, but early damage to England’s bowlers changed the game. Will Jacques took three wickets and Jofra Archer took two wickets, breaking Sri Lanka’s momentum in the powerplay. Sri Lanka failed to recover and were out for 95 runs.
