India entered the Super 8 round of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026 as an unbeaten team, but Abhishek Sharma’s form has been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons. Abhishek Sharma has not scored a single run in this tournament.
Abhishek Sharma’s T20 World Cup 2026 struggle
In all three group-stage matches, the world’s top-ranked T20I batsman was out for a duck, leaving the entire cricket world stunned. Abhishek has made his mark by attacking from the first ball and putting pressure on the bowlers from the very beginning of the game.

But nothing worked for him in the current T20 World Cup 2026. His shot selection is being questioned and fans and experts are discussing what is going wrong. As India prepare to face South Africa in their first Super Eight match on February 22, the focus is once again on Abhishek.
‘I only have the process in my hands’
However, the young opening batsman has made it clear that he is not going to change his attitude. He believes that there are always good and bad times in cricket. The left-handed batsman also stressed that only preparation, practice and mindset are under the control of the player, not the result.
Abhishek Sharma, in a video posted by Star Sports, said: “I just enjoy my batting. I have stopped taking pressure two years ago (I stopped taking any kind of pressure two years ago). Because I believe that only the process is in my hands (because I believe that only the process is in my hands). Be it practice or training – it is something that I do and need to keep doing it.”
Abhishek Sharma refused to change his style amid difficult times.
The young Indian opening batsman has decided that he will continue playing with the same aggressive intent. He does not want to take pressure due to his recent failures. He feels that if he sticks to his process the runs will eventually come.

Abhishek further added, “I enjoy not having much pressure. As a batsman, there are always ups and downs. You score in some innings, and sometimes you don’t. But personally, I had to decide at a certain point that I have to play exactly this way – with this exact intention. It may not give results on all occasions, but I am not going to change my intention or process.”

Abhishek Sharma’s T20I rollercoaster journey
Abhishek is going through a very difficult phase in T20 cricket. He has been out for zero five times in his last seven T20I innings. These five dismissals are already the most by any Indian player in a calendar year in T20Is. However, last year the story was completely different.
Abhishek was one of India’s biggest match-winners in 2025. He smashed bowlers around the park and broke many records. In 21 T20I matches, he scored 859 runs at an average of 42. His strike rate was an incredible 193.46, which shows how aggressive and fearless he was.
While Sanju Samson is also waiting for his chance, Abhishek’s past performances have instilled strong confidence in him as captain Suryakumar Yadav has confirmed that he will play in the Super 8.
