There is a famous dialogue from the Bollywood movie ‘Baazigar’ – “The one who wins after losing is called a juggler.” Nepal’s Lokesh Bam is the new ‘juggernaut’ of the city. The way he batted against the powerful England team made the entire nation believe that he too had the potential to cause an upset.
Faced with England’s challenging score, Nepal came very close to chasing it down. Ultimately, England won the match by just 4 runs, but Nepal and Lokesh managed to win the hearts of countless cricket fans today (February 8).
Nepal’s Lokesh Bam is the new posterboy
The England cricket team, who is one of the favorites to play the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2026 semi-finals, was surprised against Nepal. On paper, the match looked to be an easy one for the Harry Brook-led side. But when Nepal started chasing, thoughts started moving in the opposite direction.
Batting first, the English team scored a competitive score of 184 runs for 7 wickets with the help of Jacob Bethel’s 55, Brook’s 53 and Will Jack’s unbeaten 39. Deependra Singh Airi and Nandan Yadav scored two goals each for Nepal.
England was stunned
Since the total score confirmed by the England cricket team was quite good, cricket fans assumed that they would easily beat Nepal. But the thinking of Nepal’s cricketers was different. They came to the Wankhede Stadium with full confidence, it was this confidence that took them close to causing an upset. Nepal may have fallen behind by a few inches, but this was a fight that will remain in the minds of cricket fans for a long time.
Lokesh Bam remained unbeaten after scoring 39 runs in 20 balls with the help of four fours and two sixes. He was the main catalyst that started giving England cricketers nightmares. Nepal scored 180 runs for 6 wickets against England’s 184 runs. The lower ranked team needed 6 runs on the last ball to win the match. Sam Curran somehow managed to handle the pressure and helped England avoid any upset by a narrow margin.
