The fate of the India vs Pakistan Group A clash in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026 took another new turn as the International Cricket Council (ICC) has sought a clear answer from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on their controversial and politically influenced decision.
ICC questions PCB’s decision on India vs Pakistan match in T20 World Cup 2026
According to News19 report, the ICC has asked the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to explain how the “force majeure” clause can be used to abandon just one match while it is participating in the remaining matches of the T20 World Cup 2026 in the same country – Sri Lanka.
The global body wants clarity on why the PCB decided to pull out of the India vs Pakistan match only if the decision was indeed based on government instructions.

Earlier, the PCB had informed the ICC that it will not face India on February 15 in Colombo. He cited a government tweet that had reportedly barred the team from facing India in the mega event.
Claim of force majeure raises great doubts
Using this message, the PCB attempted to activate the ‘force majeure’ clause, which is for situations beyond the control of the national team. However, this explanation raises serious questions.
The ICC is trying to understand why Pakistan is available for all other matches of the tournament and now wants a detailed response from the PCB. After receiving ICC’s formal notice, the PCB contacted the governing body to continue talks on the situation.
While discussions are currently ongoing, the ICC is insisting that decisions affecting the tournament must protect the spirit of the game and the competition as a whole. Now, all eyes are on the outcome of the discussion where they are trying to find a solution.
