Team India wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan recently responded with humor to an old clip featuring Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill. In the viral clip, the 27-year-old cricketer jokingly said that despite scoring a double century in ODIs just a few weeks ago, he did not get a chance to play for two years.

Let us tell you, Kishan had registered the fastest ODI double century against Bangladesh in December 2022. The left-handed batsman scored 210 runs from 113 balls, which included 24 fours and 10 sixes, but was preferred to Shubman Gill as the opening batsman in the following ODI series against Sri Lanka in January 2023.

“What other matches are there? Do saal (which two games, it’s two years),” Kishan said.

The original clip was earlier shared by BCCI. While congratulating Gill, Rohit teased Kishan and said that even after scoring a double century, he could not play three matches. Kishan replied in a light-hearted manner and told Rohit that the decision of selection was in his hands.

“Ishaan, yaar aapne 200 banake 3 matches nahi khela. (Ishaan, despite scoring 200 runs you did not play three matches).”

Kishan replied, “Brother, you are the captain.”

Kishan was later recalled to the T20I squad after finishing as the top run-scorer in the 2025–26 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He replaced Gill in the recently concluded five-match T20 series against New Zealand.

In his comeback series, Kishan scored 232 runs in four innings at an average of 53.75 and a strike rate of 231.18, including one century and one half-century. On the basis of this form and Samson’s struggle, Kishan has emerged as India’s first-choice wicketkeeper ahead of the 2026 T20 World Cup.
