Afghanistan’s star all-rounder Rashid Khan took a cheeky dig at Pat Cummins while selecting the four teams for the semi-finals of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026.

Rashid Khan referred to an old interview of Pat Cummins when he was asked the same question – about the possible semi-finals of the 2024 T20 World Cup. Cummins had selected only the Australia cricket team for the semi-finals at that time.

The Afghan superstar referred to the old interview with a smile on his lips. As Cummins mentioned, only Australia is ahead before the T20 World Cup 2024, the spin-bowling all-rounder used the same reference and took a dig at Cummins. While talking to Sportstak, Rashid Khan was asked to choose four teams for the semi-finals of T20 World Cup 2026.

In response, he took a dig at Pat Cummins by referring to old comments. Rashid Khan said, “You remember the last 2024 World Cup? There was an interview where someone had named one team and said the rest you can put three.”

Pat Cummins chose Australia

Ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024, Cummins was asked to pick the top four teams for the semi-final matches. In response to this he said that he can only mention Australia and he does not care about other teams.

Hence, Rashid referred to the conversation and jokingly took a dig at Cummins before picking his favorite four teams for this year’s T20 World Cup 2026. The upcoming T20 World Cup will be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka and will begin on February 7.

Due to the conditions in the subcontinent, Rashid believes they have the potential to qualify for the semi-finals. Although he did not choose Australia.

The other three teams selected by Rashid Khan for the four-team stage are India, South Africa and England. He also said that the tournament is going to be very competitive, as every team will have many game-changing players.

Afghanistan will begin their T20 World Cup 2026 match against New Zealand in Chennai on February 8, the second day of the tournament. Afghanistan has been placed in Group D along with Canada, New Zealand, South Africa and UAE cricket team.

It is noteworthy that Afghanistan had reached the semi-finals in the last edition of the T20 World Cup. Despite their stellar performance, they suffered a 9-wicket defeat against South Africa in the semi-final match and were eliminated from the title race.
