England white-ball captain Harry Brook has shed some more light on his controversial act in Wellington last October, which came to public attention just days after the actual incident. In a recent media brief, Brook openly admitted that he has to learn more as the limited overs captain of the England cricket team.

Brook was revealed yesterday (January 20) after their win against Sri Lanka at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Balagolla. The middle-order batsman admitted he was alone when a nightclub bouncer punched him during a night out in Wellington in October. He also said that there were some other players of the England national cricket team in that nightclub.

Harry Brook publicly admitted his mistake

“I accept responsibility for my actions in Wellington and accept that there were other people present that evening,” Harry Brook said after the first match of the Sri Lanka vs England series.

The star England cricketer also claimed that whatever he said in the past was only to protect his teammates. He later realized that being the captain of the national team, his duty comes with more responsibility.

“I regret my past comments, and my intention was to protect my colleagues from being trapped in a situation that arose as a result of my own decisions.”

Harry Brook was about to lose his job as England captain

Brook’s comments come after a Telegraph report revealed that Brook, Jacob Bethell and Josh Tongue were all under investigation by the cricket regulator following the incident on the eve of England’s third ODI against New Zealand in October.

A few weeks ago, when England were brutally punished on the field by the Australia cricket team for the Ashes 2025-26, the off-field actions of English cricketers came into limelight.

There was a suspicion that irresponsible behavior off the field could also affect the team’s on-field performance. Home team Australia easily won this prestigious tournament by defeating England 4-1 in the 5-match Test series.

Before the Melbourne Test in December, England’s managing director, Rob Key, told reporters that “no formal action” had been taken following the incident. For the nightclub incident, Brook was fined £30,000 with a final warning. He came close to losing his place as England’s white-ball captain.

Brooke said, “We had already gone out for a few drinks, and then I decided to go out for a few more drinks and I was there alone.”

“I was trying to go to a club, and unfortunately the bouncer stopped me. Like I said, I shouldn’t have been in that situation to begin with… I wasn’t completely leathery; I had too much to drink.”

Concluding his media brief, Harry Brook made a public apology, saying that he needed to be more responsible as the team leader, and that he was learning more about his job.
