Such a controversy arose when Ashwin expressed his views about the ICC T20 World Cup final and a die-hard fan of Virat Kohli was impressed that his idol did not get the proper publicity he deserved for his match-winning innings in the final.
Ravichandran Ashwin comments on India’s 2024 T20 World Cup win
Ravichandran Ashwin is often known for his commentary on Indian cricket through his YouTube channel Ash Ki Baat. In such a conversation, he talked about the T20 World Cup 2024 final from his perspective.
Ashwin ignored India’s batting front, helping them take the score to 176, leaving the bowlers struggling. Instead, he picked out Jasprit Bumrah’s bowling masterclass and Suryakumar Yadav’s catches as the real factors that won the match for India.
Taking the conversation further, he largely credited Rohit Sharma for changing the dynamics of white-ball cricket in India, something the former Indian captain is often praised for. The former veteran Indian spinner did not take the name of Virat Kohli while addressing the architects behind India’s victory.
Indian fan accused Ravichandran Ashwin of being biased
A fan with the ID “Rajeev1841”, who seems to be one of the millions of fans of Virat Kohli through his illustrious career for India, came to protest Ravichandran Ashwin’s bias towards Virat Kohli.
He claimed that how can Ashwin take away the credit for the World Cup final victory from Virat Kohli, who was chosen the best player of the ICC T20 World Cup final? Kohli, who played the last T20 match of his career, probably played the most important innings of his life in that match.
He then claimed that it was understandable, as Ashwin was selected by captain Rohit Sharma in the squad for the 2022 ICC T20 World Cup and 2023 ICC ODI World Cup when he was nowhere near the white-ball format, but on the contrary, Virat had dropped him from the team several times and even showed him the way out of the white-ball team.
He courted controversy by saying that it is understandable that Rohit and Ashwin are friends and that he holds a grudge against the legendary Virat Kohli. He also claimed that Ashwin praised Kohli for his centuries because he had to appreciate them, otherwise he would be dropped.

Following the comments, widespread speculation began about a relationship between the two star Indian cricketers. However, putting an end to all the narratives, Ashwin tweeted that he had spoken to Virat Kohli over the fan coming to defend him against the indirect attack.
They shared that the two laughed about how fan wars often escalate on social media, and the two former Indian teammates found a good reason to talk and unite.
